'05 Gary Fisher Advance Vs. '05 Trek 3900

I am still trying to buy a $300 - $400 mountain bike and have kind of narrowed it down to these two bikes. Anyone have either?

    Thanks

Pretty similar bikes here. The Trek is only a 7 speed whereas the Advance is an 8 speed. Advance also has a better rear derailleur. Guess it depends on whether 3 extra gear combos and a better derailleur is worth the extra money.

My advice: Buy the Advance, if you like it.

I can get them both at the same price. My mind is totally muddled with all the choices

Then there is no choice. The Advance is a lot better bike for the same money.

I was going to buy an Advance and liked it alot for the price, but then decided to upgrade to a Marlin. The Advance is still good though

I would suggest the Wahoo for a bit more
    Here
Since it's a 2005 you should see this one for a fair price - foud ours at $389 down from the $420 MSRP
This is a nice bike for the money and my wife really likes it.
If you had the chance to swing a few more $$ I suggest the Marlin as a good entry point too.
Try a ride on the genesis geomentry (on the Wahoo and up) and see if you like it, you will also get a gold series frame which is made in America with a heat treated process that makes em pretty tough.
