Always wear a helmet...
My friend just phoned me up, he and a couple of mates were out urban assaulting today. He jumped a set of 10 stairs and landed well but somehow he said he pulled much more on the front brake than the back and went over the bars, doing a faceplant into a parked car's side. The car nearly got denteed and he just fell to the floor but luckily he's one of those people that actually wear helmets all of the time. He was wearing his Bell Bellistic at the time and he said even though he hit the car with tremendous speed he didn't get hurt at all and the helmet wasn't even scratched. I told him to get the LBS to check if it's cracked anywhere just to be sure.
Anyway, this just proves, wearing a helmet can save your ass.
Pretty funny stuff, the first thing my buddy says when I pick up is "I faceplanted a car!" LOL

Glad he's alright.
I guess I really should wear my helmet more often... the one I have isn't all that comfortable, I should try a bmx style one.

Not wearing a helmet during mountain riding or urban is just immature and ridiculous. If we value our lives and brains at all, we will wear a helmet. For $40 you can pick up a nice looking, comfortable helmet.

I don't get people that don't wear helmets??? I mean with the buckets they have out there now, hell most are pretty dam cool looking, I know I wear a helmet doing everything, snowboarding rock climbing, mountain biking, my snowboard helmet saved me from a serious head injury two years ago when I fell coming off a lift, went to stand up and the chair was right above me. I refuse to ride with people that don't wear helmets I don't want to be the gy responsible for telling his family that for a $25 helmet he could have saved his life. boggles my mind that people still don't wear them.

Take the beaten up helmet, and nail it to the wall as a memento of the experience. Then buy a new helmet. The structure of the foam in those helmets is only meant to take one serious impact. After that their absorbant powers are diminished, even if there are no cracks whatsoever, the internal structure of the foam may have been changed for good. Its not worth the few bucks for a helmet to find out.
Plus, having helmets nailed to your wall is pretty hardcore, and a good way to start conversations about your hardcore lifestyle.
peace,
sam

Whenever a new guy joins the club (freeride club) and isnt wearing a helmet w always give him a hard time, and we dont let up until hegets a bucket. even if you are just toodling around town WEAR A HELMET who is to say a car doestn hit you, or some freak accident happens, and you sustain damage to your nervous system, sayin "Oh Ill just wear one when I do big stuff" is just plain ignorant, and a dissregard for yours and other's safety, I hope you dont have kids to pass this line of thinking onto.......Cheers

Tell your bud to pack that helmet up and send it to Bell. Their warranty will get him a new helmet for $20 and shipping, I think.

I don't ride around cars... Should I still wear one of my 8 helmets?
I usually can't make-up my mind as to which one to wear, so I simply wear my cap....

I swear by my full face, I just feel so much better when I have it on. He should definitely talk to bell, I know 661 has a replacement deal, I get a good price and they want the helmet back to study it or something.

Only morons throw a leg over a top tube sans helmet; period!
Unless, of course, you're cruising the boardwalk in Newport or Huntington Beach on a cruiser then you're pretty safe. No cars and <5mph is not going to result in too many crashes (unless you count all of the face-plants into the sand that happen as a result of staring at some goddess in a bikini! )

A helmet has saved my life on two occasions.
