You can afford a $1300 bike, but not a $5 magazine?

Putting that fork on that bike is a joke, right? You're looking at a shop guy or racer's old bike that he put a crappy fork on so he'd have a complete bike to sell.
As others have said, do some legwork of your own. Go to sites like Bicycling.com and mountainbike.com-they have buyer's guide info on there to an extent.
For my money, Rocky Mountain Vertex 30 is where it's at; should be about $1200.

For 1300 bucks you can do way better than a used bike. Try looking at some different companies, like Trek, Specialized, GT, Giant, Rocky Mountian, Mountain Cycle to name a very few.

Just look at last years models. Many places have them on sale, thats usually where the best deals can be found. You can get plenty of good stuff for 1300 or less. One thing i notice is that thats the price point where things start to change, like for 100 dollars more your looking at a fairly big jump in components

Go read them online. You have to do your own legwork: unless you're just trolling. If that's the case quit wasting our time

Without an idea of what kind of riding he wants to do this thread is ultimately pointless.

This thread is a waste of time. The guy obviously doesn't want info, he's just trying to make people look like tools.

At least you know that about yourself so you won't have any great expectations later on in life.

Again this thread is POINTLESS without a LOT more information than what has been given. We could suggest road bikes and it wouldn't make a difference.

Hmmm...we could...... I highly suggest this bike for you, you can take it off a 30 foot drop and it will not break. Its only $8500 out of your price range.
