eggs anyone?
 

anyone try eggbeaters - i know some of the pros use them - but i am not exactly a pro

my spds are getting a bit old, and i kind of like the idea of 4 sides to clip into and the possibility of less mud buildup (if they truly work that way)

Well...Im using Candies which are pretty much the same thing except for the extra platform. I have no complaints with these pedals. THey are light for the price, mud proof, super simple mechanism = less to go wrong. Just look at the reviews on mtbr.com. I dont think the eggbeaters are very practical though, theres just hardly platform. Candy is a more sensible choice. I got my Candy SL's for 60.95+8 to ship on ebay new in box. Its still there on ebay listed in stores

I've been using eggbeaters for over a year now. I like them and mud-buildup isn't a problem. I learned to ride clipless on eggbeaters and never have looked back. So I suppose I don't have the most unbiased opinion on this. :p

Eggbeaters are definitely one of the most favored clipless pedals out there, with Time ATAC following. Err I think that's how it goes... Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Eggbeaters are bodacious. I have 4 or 5 pairs now between my bikes; no mud buildup, easy in and out, and the light weight is a bonus. No real need to get the various ti options-the weight savings are marginal while the cost is anything but.

I've used them for a week on my commuter (after a drastic pedal failure had me send back the spuds I had), and have since decided that my mt-bike must have them. Esp for mud and ice, they seem like the real deal. But the no-brainer entry was what made me make the change.

Never tried them, but I hear they work well....

I buy 100% of my sh#t "ON SALE", so until then I'll never know....

I use eggbeaters on my roadie and mtb.

Work great on both, not the lightest, but I'm willing to sacrifice some weight savings for the ease of clipping in and the mud-shedding capabilities on the mtb.

Also very durable, I have crashed numerous times with these pedals and my first pair are still going strong.

Strongly recommended by me.

Best pedals ever. Lots of float, shed mud like they're made of teflon, easy to get in and out of and they require zero maintenance. I have both the Candies and the standard SLs and both are incredible.

well egg beaters are lighter than most SPD pedals ou there.

that settles it - i am sold

now the ? is wether to buy the candies or the regular

i like the idea of having a small pedal, but i wear mountain bike specific shoes (softer/less rigid sole) and worry that the original beaters may not be enough to push on

obviously many pros do just fine with them - but the XC pros may wear a stiff shoe (carbon-fiber, etc.) for all i know

Candy. Its not much heavier, my set of SL for 60.95 is like 262 grams or something. Having a little platform is very nice, and you can wear sneakers

I wear stiff soled shoes(Sidi Dragon SRS) and I use regular eggbeaters, no platform. Haven't had any hot spots.

Haven't heard of anyone having problems with hot-spots yet using normal eggbeaters.

the only thing i have against the regular egg beaters is that you cant use regular shoes with them

i always ride clipped in, so not being able to wear regular shoes would be ok with me

I like my Mallet C's

I switched to the Candies because I do a lot of very aggressive XC/All Mountain type riding so I like the added stability of the platform however, I rode the regular Beaters for about two years with my SIDI's and didn't have a single problem with them being too small.
