Castle Rock/Larkspur/Monument Riders?
Been riding roads, gravel, and some singletrack in this area and really enjoying the variety we have on the south side of Denver. No shortage of great views, desolate roads, and challenging terrain.
This spring, hoping to maintain my riding regularity from this past year and get out with some other humans. I'm not fit or fast or social enough to be part of a cycling club per se, but would enjoy meeting some guys with similar interests (bikepacking, gravel, exploring, being outside). Planning a fairly ambitious trip from Castle Rock to Woodland Park and back along Rampart Range Rd, if anyone wants to join. Also doing gravel riding fairly regularly as weather permits through the winter.
If anyone has interest, let me know. Pretty basic fitness level, nothing crazy, and just like to ride my bike. No hangups and have just dropped 50 lbs over the past year so still working on getting in shape.

Sounds good to me.
About what time of the year you think you'll be trying the ride to Woodland Park? I'm guessing that's a good 100+ miles on mostly unpaved roads (w/ a good amount of climbing thrown in), so it'll feel even longer.
I'm actually in Denver, but I'd like to get to that neck of the woods a few times this season.

I'm down for any kind of fun rides this spring. Probably wouldn't try the Woodland Park ride until June at least, maybe even early July - it's 50.7 miles from my house in CR to downtown WP and 6k' climbing. I think it would be a great challenge to see what kind of riding shape I'm in for summer, plus it's easy to camp up in those hills along the way.
Also there's a thing called the AntiEpic happening that I plan to do, check it out: AntiEpic - Colorado Gravel Challenge
Cheers

Feel free to post in this thread if you're doing some weekend rides in the Spring. I have a "gravel grinder" bike that still needs a lot of breaking in and I'm guessing you have some nice options for that down there.
I'm also doing the AntiEpic -- the shorter version. The longer ride knocked the crap out of some pretty serious riders last year. See you there!
Let's stay in one piece to take a run at CR to WP to CR later in the year. I (Eric W) will also follow you on Strava if you want to coordinate anything from there.
Have fun & stay safe.

I'm in the Springs and could be interested in riding together this upcoming year. One my favorite routes is to go from my house north to Palmer Lake, then take Mt. Herman Road (gravel) over the mountains to WP, then come back to the Springs on Highway 24. I've done a number of century rides from the Springs up through Castle Rock and back, and I know there are lots of great roads between here and there, but I've not done much riding north of CR, so I'd be interested in meeting up to explore that area. Highway 67 from Sedalia to WP is already on my list of places I plan to ride this year, I've heard it's a lot of fun.

Hi, I am visiting Castle Rock in June from Australia. Wondering if there is anyone that might have some suggestions or advice on riding fire trails west of the I25, for example the Pine- Foxton -Deckers area. I ride a road bike in Australia. So I have no experience on single tracks and rocky terrain. However, I am keen to venture onto gravel on a mountain bike and explore! Does anyone know what the surface of Rampart Range Road would be like in June. Happy to hear other suggestions of great rides 30-50 miles depending upon the terrain. Does anyone know of any scenic group rides in the Castle Rock/ south of Denver area....... group rides might help me stay on the right side of the road!!! thank you

Hey, be sure to get in touch as your trip gets closer - I live right next to the foothills and would be happy to show you around. The surface of Rampart in June is probably dusty and washboard bumpy with significant traffic due to the area's popularity, though I have ridden up and down that road without incident. Getting over to Pine is a little bit tricky - I'd recommend saving yourself the headache and just drive over to Buffalo Creek and park there for the day and ride the singletrack. It's probably one of the most memorable things you can do while you're here - it's world-class riding over there.
If you're looking for a true group ride, there's a great cycling group here called 6202 Cycling - look them up on FB and they will be most happy to help you out with a group road ride.
There are several great options for extended rides south of here and east of I-25 using Greenland Rd. Great scenery, rolling hills, and smooth dirt roads. Fun times for sure - hope you will get in touch while you're here.

Also hoping to do a bike-overnighter coming up as soon as it's warm enough, riding from my house in CR up into the forest and navigating as I go. Feel free to email if better sircrashalot at gmail
lasauge - emailed you too. Good stuff!

Hey man - let's talk about some pre-Epic riding down south next weekend (4/16 would be ideal). I am shaking off the winter sludge, so you'll have to probably bear with my fitness level but I want to get out there.

I can make time on 4/16 to be down there. Don't worry, I'm too old and heavy to be fast, especially by CO standards. We can go from there re. overnighters, but that sounds good too! I'll shoot you an email later this week.

Castle Rock area rides
Hi crashmo, thanks for the reply and comments. Very kind of you. My brother in law is worried about me riding on roads, cause most roads are 50mph and there are no shoulders! Will get in touch as trip gets closer. cheers
PS You have some great photos posted on Strava of the rock and beyond

also check out the North Colorado Springs Cycling meetup page...they've been putting on some good gravel rides in the area.
Once i get the cast off my wrist, i'll be up for some rides north from Colorado Springs too.
