Greetings all!

I'm currently enrolled at UNO as a Comp Sci student, decided to start cycling next semester but had a few questions I was hoping someone from the area might help me with:
-Any recommendations on bike shops to visit (I'm in the market for a new road bike at a reasonable price, as well as quite a few accessories)
-My parents are concerned with the safety of the Keystone Trail right by my dorm (we're from a smaller town). Could anyone comment on this to satisfy them?

If you want some place close, then you can try the TREK Bicycle Store (https://trekomaha.blogspot.com/) on Jones Street. It is right next to Nebraska Furniture Mart on 72nd Street - which is very close to UNO. I cannot speak to the quality of the place, never having used it.

I have biked the Keystone Trail a few times during the daylight hours and found it safe. You should have no problems.

Smaller than Omaha?!

Just kidding, I grew up in Columbus, NE. When we left I think it was maybe 17 kilohumans strong. According to the website they're up to 21 kilohumans. Wow.

Thanks for the input guys! I've checked out a ton of shops in the area; just a quick browse, due to time constraints. Looked at Trek, as you recommended, Bike Masters, The Bike Rack, The Bike Way, and both Olympia Cycle locations. Both Olympia Cycle's were amazingly helpful (on 40th he took at least a half hour to show me everything he thought would work, even though he knew I was just looking), so I think I'll probably end up buying from them. Not to say the other shops weren't good shops, I just found Olympia most helpful (seems like possibly some retired gents enjoying a hobby).

Another quick question: What is the condition of the trails (such as the Keystone) during poor weather (such as now ). Are they usually cleared, or does it take a while to melt down?

Btw, I'm originally from Manhattan, KS... Home of the K-State Wildcats! I guess it's not that small, but students make up a majority of the population and the feel of the city is much different than Omaha.

Being from the South, the only biking I do until March or April is on my exercise bike at home. I don't want to freeze my (bike) nuts off!

Being it's Omaha, I suspect that they let Nature takes it course.
