Yeah, I'm gonna do it on my tank and show y'all up! Hehe... just kidding. My boss offered to pay half my registration as well as help me get a better bike. So I'm looking for a cheap used road bike. We'll see what I find, I may end up riding my tank after all! (I'd probably take the fenders/rack/lights off for the actual ride, though :p )

superdex 02-12-07 01:54 PM

if you need help cruising CL or ebay, I'll help :D

Pheard 02-12-07 01:58 PM

Is a triple bypass like a burger or something? Mhhm.

Being IT Manager at my company I feel that I'm competent enough at the computer to use E-bay as well as craigslist. But thanks for the offer. :p

Actually, I bought the bike I have off Craigslist, and sold on there as well. We have a great bike section here in Denver!

I'm sure they'll have burgers in Avon, probably big, nasty, greasy ones. Then maybe we'll need a triple bypass after the Triple Bypass. :)

Meh... Guess I have to pick up a helmet, too. I hate helmets. *sighs*

are you doing this snowy? I bet there's TONS of climbing.

Hey at least you'd burn off a couple pounds of fat.

10,310 feet of climbing. Doesn't it sound like fun?

I walked into my boss' office with the registration packet, and said "I'm gonna commit suicide in July" as I handed it to him. Then he offered to pay half the registration fee! And I thought they LIKED me around here!

snowy 02-12-07 02:49 PM

YEP I'm doing this ride.

Are you telling me I need to lose weight??;)

BM-yes you need to protect that head of yours. Its really not all that bad. I had a rode crash a year ago and if it wasn't for me helmet I would probably had a head injury. Oh just so you know I broke the helmet.

Hope you survive that climb, that's crazy.

Oh I trust you know how to look, I was thinking more along the lines of what to look for -- and heck, it's always fun to look :D

Man, that's scary. I know of a ride here in cali that's 11,000 feet of climbing. On a mtbike.

How steep are the climbs?

superdex 02-12-07 03:47 PM

I know Loveland Pass (#2) is 6%ish, and Vail Pass (#3) in the direction we're doing it (yep, I'm signed up) is 5-6%. I have no idea about Juniper Pass...

Hmmm... I thought that the Triple Bypass was in June, not July, but was wrong. That means my schedule is currently open.

I think I'm going to register as well.

IMO, here's the 2 hardest parts of the ride:

1. The elevation/ lack of oxygen at altitude -- lowest elevation is around 7,500', highest is 11,990. That calls for some really good aerobic conditioning and/ or acclimating to those elevations.

2. It looks like the 1st 14 miles averages around 4.5% grade. But, for most people (i.e. me :) ) it takes a good 30-45 minutes to warm up the legs (engine) before I'm able to hit the climbs very hard. Without a bit of warm-up, those 1st 14 miles can break you.

snowy 02-12-07 04:28 PM

I'm ready for this ride so I say BRING IT!! :)

I'll be doing some rides in Leadville too to train so I'll be plenty ready!! :)

So... I can ride to Evergreen from my house to warm up, right?

Sure, as long as it's not too hilly!

hairlessbill 02-12-07 05:45 PM

Damn, now I might have to consider the bypass if the Tank is going. Is there a time limit on this ride?

Looks like 14 hours max if you want transportation back to Evergreen from Avon. Still, that's less than 10mph avg speed.

I'm checking on a newer bike, we'll see what I can find that I can afford. :) Those darn roadies are infecting me!

celticfrost 02-12-07 06:17 PM

Can any Triple Bypass veterans comment on this ride?

I noticed that registration is pretty steep @ $115. I don't want to sound like a Scrooge and I know that a good portion of the proceeds goes to good causes, it's just that at this particular instant in time (and for a good month or so), I'll be a bit short on funds (it's what happens when you don't get paid for 5 weeks  ). But I also don't want to wait too late and end up not being able to register due to the ride being sold out.

Pwnt 02-12-07 06:54 PM

 How Much????

Ummm, yeah.......I'm Po! I'm so Po I can't even afford the "or" at the end of Poor to even be able to say it. 115 buck to completely torcher myself. That makes alot of sense. Well there is always can collecting. :D

Man...<sigh>
