Peak to Peak ride info (Saturday):
Quote:
I've been thinking of doing a ride from Boulder, up the Boulder Canyon to Nederland across the Peak to Peak highway to Estes Park, then back to Boulder.

The route is a full century. It also has a very significant amount of climbing, probably 7,000 or 8,000 feet of vertical.

Plan is to meet at the Boulder Rec Center (at 55th and South Boulder Road) at 7:30 a.m. for an 8 a.m. roll-out.

UPDATE

Here is the route: www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Boulder-Nederland-Estes-Loop
We probably won't be leaving at exactly 8... several people will be arriving about that time, including me... I'll be rolling up at just about 8 AM sharp (but... I'll already be on my bike and ready to go!)

Mt Evans Ride Info (Sunday):

Meet at Echo Lake for a 7:30 am (SHARP!) departure.

It is more of a daycare issue at the moment.
I have a few other options to look at. But a ride may help.

WOOT!

Look forward to seeing you there!

It's an awesome ride, and well worth the effort. The first part is a lot of climbing, but we're doing it the easy way... the other two times this summer that I've done the ride, we did 90 miles or so BEFORE the start of the climb.

I'm kinda freaking out. The last time I rode a century it took me 10 hours to complete. (elephant rock) This is going to be in the mountain, which it will take longer....I don't have lights on my bike.

How long does it usually take you to complete this Bill?

How would I know??? The times I've done it, it was part of a brevet. After an hour of sleep the night before, and 90 miles on the bike before we started, I stopped and took a half hour nap half way up.

Going up is slow, but once we get up it's pretty easy and fast. I wouldn't worry about it too much. The initial climb is probably half (or nearly so) of the total time of the ride.

Edit: Bring food for on-the-bike time! 4 hrs of climbing requires refueling!

Just to be safe make sure you have some bail out options. Make sure there is someone that can come get you if your not feeling the ride.

Pwnt, we are talking Saturday boulder century, right?

1) I get to meet you all!!! YAY!

2) don't freak out there are multiple straightforward bailout options before you head up to Estes. From the P2P you can zoom back *down* to boulder on Lefthand Canyon or *down* to Lyons on St. Vrain/Hwy 7, both of which dump you out on Hwy 36 where it is flat back to Boulder.

3) that part about it being flat after you get to Ned is a complete and utter lie, unless you consider 2500-3000 feet of climbing to be flat. But there is some descending in there, too.

4) there are places to get snacks & water on the route: Ned, Ward, Allenspark, Estes Park. But yeah, fuel for the ~20 mile initial climb up to Ned is required.

See you Saturday (unless I go climbing instead)

I never said it was FLAT after Nederland... just that it was easy (comparatively). And relatively fast.

Hey.. wait a sec... how'd you know about the bike???

Are you stalking me AGAIN?
*boggles*

Huh... that's just weird... now I'm creeped out!

I picked up a Trek 7200 for my wife. She loves it! It's lighter than the one she was riding, better suited for her riding style right now (much more upright) and it's got a triple on it... with a 28 chainring and a 34 in the back... she should be able to ride up just about anything!

Sandbagger.

If pwnt is talking about taking 10 hours to do the elephant and bringing lights along, I thought I would attempt to accurately characterize the ride. silly me.

see you out there, at least for a couple minutes, until you ride away from me like the wind....

pwnt, you are bringing ice cream to go with that cake or pie, right?
