September date set for fourth annual Parker Cycling Races

September date set for fourth annual Parker Cycling Races

For the fourth consecutive year top professional and amateur cycling comes to Parker…. This year, though, it will be held AT NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS! The Parker Twilight Criterium is one of top races in the country and is the finale of the Colorado road cycling season. The Parker Twilight Criterium will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 on the downtown streets of Parker. The criterium is fast-paced laps race that circles downtown Parker at speeds over 30 miles per hour. The fun and exciting atmosphere in Downtown Parker is sure to bring thousands of participants and spectators!

The race is designated as the 2007 USA Cycling Colorado State Criterium Championships and is a featured event on the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympics Racing Series (LAJORS) for racers ages 10-18. The Parker Twilight Criterium is also pleased to be partnering with the Parker Arts Council’s Oktoberfest. With racing, food, drinks, and entertainment, this is sure to be a great family day at O’Brien Park!

“We are proud to announce that the 2007 Parker Twilight Criterium is one of those high-status races that made the state championship level,” said Rick Garrick, Race Director. “Making it to this level certainly fits in nicely with the goals of this event. Our goals have always been to make a great and organized race for all the participants, boost downtown businesses by bringing large numbers of spectators to the area, and to make it a fun and exciting event for spectators. All three of those areas will be enhanced by being a part of the championship and it is a real tribute to the team work and support that our sponsors, volunteers, Town Council and community have put forth to help make this event a reality.”

The top teams and riders from around the country will again be racing in downtown Parker. The event will continue to run beginner to expert level categories so that riders of all experience levels can compete. In 2006, the Parker Mainstreet Criterium had the largest kids’ race in the state with over 150 participants! Race organizers plan on making that element of the race even more prominent in 2007. All Pee Wee racers can register at Treads Bicycles in Parker beginning immediately.
