Cyclist Killed Near Denver

I didn't see any other posts about this, so I hope this isn't a re-post, but I wanted to make sure everyone had heard about this tragedy: https://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_8993299

I learned of this because I was biking the same road the next day and someone had put up a simple sign indicating there had been a cyclist fatality the day before. I'm sure most of you are familiar with that curvy stretch of 32nd Ave between Lakewood and Golden, East of the Coors brewery. I don't know if the lack of a shoulder on that stretch contributed to this accident, but it sure couldn't hurt to add one.

Let's be careful out there.

Horrible.

I think I've ridden that part of 32nd at least 20 times over the past year or so and it was only a few weeks ago that I really noticed how blind those turns a mile or so east of the brewery really are. Not to mention the complete lack of a shoulder on either side.

Really sad. This is my biggest concern in cycling. I do this to live longer and that will likely be true. However, this type of thing happens too regularly not to think about it.

I posted this on 4/7/2007 on a thread here in Mountain/Plains. I wish I had been wrong. I came across the accident site that Saturday, driving back from a ride out on the Eastern plains, I remembered my post and had a moment.

"Knock on wood and cross my fingers, but...

The twisty winding road of 32 between Mcintyre and Ford in Golden is just a tragedy waiting to happen, Coors trucks, no shoulders and Mommy's Suburban going 40mph <> fun for me.

I agree whole heartedly that it is a great stretch of road, I just don't like the blind corners and no shoulders. "
