Ghost Town Century - SLC

Anyone here doing the Ghost Town out in Tooele this Saturday (3rd)?

My very first century attempt was the Ghost Town last year. The weather was absolutely crappy. I was starting to think that this year was going to be the same (it was just snowing here) but the forecast is now looking good.

I'll be out there on my red Specialized Allez with the red drops and yellow and black criss-crossed upper bars. Say hi when you pass me!

I forgot to put this on my calendar so my wife filled up my Saturday. Have fun and give a ride report when you are done.

I totally forgot, too. This was definitely the one I wanted to do, but I'm not ready for a century this early in the season. I would get my butt kicked.

Are there any other centuries this month around here? I wouldn't mind doing one just to see if I could actually finish this early in the season.

The Cycle Salt Lake Century is on the 17th (two weeks). See here.

I'll be there, too.

I better get moving if I'm going to ride the Salt Lake Century. I've always heard it's a good one, but have never tried it.

I'm trying to move some things around so I can ride the SL Century. It goes right by my house in Kaysville and my daughters usually cheer me on when I pass by. I'll hear tomorrow if I'll be able to open up that Saturday.
You should do it Al. Not very difficult. Some rolling areas but mostly flat.
I'm just afraid I'm not quite ready for a Century yet.

Way better than last year!!

Last year, we couldn't get SAGged out; no one had room for our tandem, and I figured I'd become just another ghost on the route.

We were back this year on a new new new tandem (the Co-motion REDster); the weather was decent, and I'm sure we said "hi" to the OP, because we say "hi" to everyone.

The route is an Escheresque all-uphill, except for a couple bits where you fall straight down out of the sky across 5 cattleguards. Ok, I might be exagerating just a tiny bit, but you get the idea.

We're riding the SL Cent. on the 17th too, so if you're greeted by a ring of the bell from the giddy "Make Goodtime" team on the Co-motion Redster you'll know it's us.

The ride was much, much better than last year. Still a little on the cold side to start but it was overall a great ride. I managed to stay on the bike all the way up to Ophir this time (had to walk part of it last year, but I was on my much heavier Miyata 710 then). Worse part of the ride for me was that I forgot the sunscreen (not what I was thinking of at 7 AM standing by the car shivering) and my face got roasted. Live and learn.

Probably did say hi to Malkin, though who knows for sure. I think I saw a couple of tandems out, along with a couple of guys in jeans (?) and the requisite mountian bikes.

Over all a good first century of the year. I went out and rode some of City Creek Canyon Sunday as a recovery ride and then we rode Emigration yesterday (another first for me) which may now be my new favorite ride! Trying to keep in the saddle with all thoughts on training for the Desperado Dual in August!
