Denver

Hey, moving to Denver from Longmont in November, where are the cool/cheap places close to everything? I want to be close enough to bike anywhere, and not hav to use my car, so say 5 miles from shows, bars etc.

Also, anyone have info on getting a messenger job, or pedicab?

Chers,

Denver has a cryptic way of naming neighborhoods. Find one of the real estate maps that names the neighborhoods to help you. Based on what you are wanting, you can basically draw a circle with a 5 mile radius around downtown, and rule out the places you can't afford. Start by ruling out Cherry Creek .

Highlands is pretty cool these days and still has some affordable housing. If you are renting, go for Capital Hill. You will be close to everything and it has the most rentals, many in cool older buildings. I live in South City Park, and Colfax keeps it a bit more affordable, but houses still start at 300K and climb from there (Denver isn't the cheapest town). There are some rentals out this way as well. We are 2.5 miles from downtown, with lots to do on Colfax as well.

As the pp said, anywhere surrounding downtown would be good. Housing price depends on what you are looking for. Do you want quiet residential? Thriving bohemian? Mixed business and residential? Renting or buying?

If you live near a light rail station you can get to a lot of great places... and they're expanding the light rail threefold, so it'll only get better as time goes on.

EDIT: Here's one of the lodo pedicab outfits: https://www.milehighpedicabs.com/

When I moved to Colorado almost 4 yrs ago, I found getting a DBTC denver biking map (avail at :rei, mapsco, tattered cover , most LBS) very helpful in making my decision between the final few houses on my list

... I ended up 1 mile from bear creek trail

Come on people, he asked about messenger/pedicab jobs. With that I am going to assume:

Bohemian Renter look for a cheap place to live in the thick of it.

My thoughts would be to check out Highlands, West Wash Park (West of Broadway), and Capital Hill/S. City Park (lots of apartments).
