Omaha to Des Moines

Just planning for a ride in the spring time..... Has anyone on here rode from Omaha (Council Bluffs) to Des Moines IA? I am looking for a very bike friendly route with the most paved shoulders as possible. I would break the ride up into 2 days, so if you have a good 1/2 way point stop I would like to know that too.

thanks,
Joe

PM me Joe. I live half-way. Your only good choice that's safe is to avoid hiway 6 and 92. Get on the county roads. G35 from Underwood all the way to Atlantic isn't bad, but it is very hilly. From my place near Brayton to Des Moines is a piece of cake.

30 isn't bad - all the cars are over on I80.

Joe, also go online and get the Iowa bicycle map. I color codes all the roads based on traffic counts. It's a pdf format that has a free download.

30 CAN be awful depending on the area. Near Jefferson it's worse than interstate as far as traffic and there is no shoulder. It's probably too far north for you too.
