Bike to Work Day

Next Wednesday is Bike to work day... Since the majority of the action is aimed towards people riding towards downtown, I'm planning on riding part-way to work, turning around and joining a group riding to downtown.

After breakfast and whatever giveaways I can grab, I'm gonna turn around and head the other direction and ride to work.

There's also a big get together after work near Lodo (15th and Little Raven... by Confluence Park)

Anyone else doing anything interesting?

Does riding to and from the office for the last time count?
Otherwise, no.

There's a new breakfast station at Arapaho light rail station (actually... I'm pretty sure it's on the other side of the freeway... across the pedestrian bridge) ... I'll be stopping there on the way in!

I plan on staying off the bike trails. I ride near the REI Flagship, which should be a big stop, with lots of food and stuff. I am going to avoid it like the plague.

There's a perfectly good road that goes right by there.

Just sayin'.

They give away some pretty cool stuff (So I hear... my 6th year of biking to work and I haven't stopped at a breakfast station yet)

Absolutely! Why I stay on the road and off the trails. Plus, it seems there are a ton of geese around this year. Riding along Bryant then jogging over to Zuni to 8th works for me.

Only live about 5 blocks away from work so I usually walk. Not this day though! Great for stocking up on freebies. From what I recall, the best spot for freebies is Civic Park, but had a huge line last year.

I work at home, but I get out and ride almost every day. Maybe I will go tool around on my fixed-gear and see what is going on.

That has a certain air of finality to it. Whadzup? Hanging up the commuter wheels??? Sounds like you were pushed or jumped. If you were pushed...Jeez, sorry to hear it.

If you jumped...the other 3213 commuters in Colorado need you, man! Don't give it up!

I'm heading into Boulder to raid some breakfast stops and meet up with a colleague. Then we're 'bike pooling' to Longmont for work.

I have stopped complaining.... I swear. I did manage to irritate Curt with my incessant complaining on facebook. lol

I'm going to see if I can transform this into an eventual home business of some sort. Time to follow a dream of mine.

Last year I went to the Parker breakfast stop (E470 trail and CC Trail) and got a bunch of folks to sign petitions for Amendment 51.

This year, I will go the the breakfast stop, hang around a bit, have some bagels, chat it up with the Treads bike guys there, and will likely see several folks I know. Then I will ride on, but not to work!

I thoroughly enjoy the morning and wouldn't miss it. My wife will also join me.

DataJunkie, I have been working from home for almost ten years now. It is awesome. I do spend a lot of time on calls though and there is always facebook...

I work for an east-coast company, so I generally start early and end by 3:00 or 3:30 and then get on the bike. Sometimes I am in full kit during my last call of the day, so I can head right out the door.

I'll simply be taking a little detour, although not out of the way, for a breakfast stop at Perk Hill then on to work. I might park my bike in the super special BtWD bike parking rather than the usual room set aside for regular bike commuters. Oh, and I'll be getting free lunch for biking to work, courtesy of the Museum (where I work.)

This will be my first "Bike to Work" day in Denver- What should I expect riding from downtown out SE?

What kinds of freebies are we talking about being given away, anything worth getting out of bed early for?

I left later due to forgetting a few items.
I should have encountered more riders at the 6:00 hr. However, turnout appeared to be a bit pathetic. This did allow me to haul arse to work.

There's a BTWD stop there? For years? But I always take Jordan and skip it! Argh!

I live just north of you in Cottonwood by the way.

Yep. I've been going for at least 5-6 years.

My wife and I ride to the new shopping center - Target, etc. - at Parker and Arapahoe regularly - for coffe at Paneras. One can get there without ever getting on Jordan,

I rode downtown... Hit REI at 6:20.... they weren't set up yet. A bunch of empty tables and two mechanics chatting by themselves.

Proceeded to Civic Center and they were almost fully set up... got lots of cool stuff. (Pins, stickers, water bottle, reusable shopping bag, energy bars, bike maps, etc)

Then I headed straight down Broadway to Mississipi and met up with my normal commute. Made it to the Arapaho station Breakfast station shortly after 8. Another water bottle, breakfast burrito and some free drink and food coupons.

Hit the Bike From Work Bash at 15th and Little Raven about 6:30... they were already out of food, but we had energy drinks and a couple brews and I scored a third water bottle for the day.

We had dinner downtown and went to head back right after dark and.... my rear light was gone.

I hate people.
