Crazy to ride Mt. Evans 3 days before TBP?

Ok, I have been off the bike for almost two weeks and am finally recovering from my trip to Australia. I am planning on riding Evans from Bergen Park early tomorrow to get some conditioning in before the ride. My rationale is that the ride is not steep and it will help me get some altitude training in. I will have two rest days before the Triple.

Any thoughts on whether my logic is sound or if this is too much to do 3 days before the Triple?

Better hurry, I need to get to bed early if I am to do this

Thanks

I think that's doable from my perspective. Plus you could always adjust and turn around as you see fit. If you start the ride at 5:30 then you'll get an idea of the amount of clothing you'll need for the descent from Squaw to Idaho Springs. I have always found that descent to be really chilly. I bundle up to prevent the shakes and shimmies.

I've even stashed the extra clothing I prefer to descend with from Squaw Pass in Idaho Springs after the descent if the day's weather looks to be pretty stable. Brrrr.

Thanks telenick. That is how I see it. Also can let me know if I am just not feeling up to Saturday.

I am planning to carry leg and arm warmers on Saturday (and tomorrow), as well as a rain shell and glove liners.

I think it is doable but the training benefit will be extremely negligible. This close to the triple you will have what training you have. It is better to be rested IMHO.
Please note that I am not listening to my own advice.

Seriously though. Thanks for the input. I am up early and finally feeling good. I am going.

So, it turns out the road is closed today and tomorrow. There was a sign at the start in Bergen Park, so I knew I was only going to Echo Lake. I decided to see how fast I could get there, and I think I am in for a long day on Saturday. 1:55 to the summit (second one) and 2:10 to Echo Lake. I couldn't push any faster without knee pain and I doubt I can push that fast on Saturday, given the length of the ride.

BTW, the sign said closed Wednesdays and Thursdays in January, so it may not only be this week. I talked to the guy at the gate and he said a section of shoulder collapsed and they are doing major reinforcement to prevent anymore loss.

It says every wed and thurs in july.

Man.. knee pain sucks. I spent half last year getting over knee pain caused by a bad fit on one of my bikes.

It figures that this is the time I didn't check the website.

I had my bike pro fitted last year and things were good until Golden Gate Canyon this summer. Now I have been moving my saddle fore and aft, by less than .5 cm to fix it, but I think it is the knee more than the fit. I wish I had a lower gear for Saturday, but I am already spending most of my climbing in 12-27.
