What a great ride. Back in the late 70's/early 80's we used to do an unsupported ride from Florence to Rye and back and then there was the Hardscrabble Century....Canon City, Hardscrabble, Westcliffe, Texas Creek, Canon City. What ever happened to that one?

Sore saddle cyclist
Hardscrabble Century was a great ride, I rode it a few times, alway felt great to go past the road to the Royal Gorge and enjoy that long decent into Canon City.

I did the HSC once, but I remember it starting from Florence, not CC. It was snowing at the top of Hardscrabble Pass, and folks turned around and came back. It was so cold that those unprepared for the weather were turning blue coming down into the flatland! I was prepared for the weather, but most weren't.
I believe it died from:
1. Lack of participation - there were only about 200 riders.
2. Some problems between auto traffic/truckers and riders on HS Pass. I know that I got nearly run off the road by several truckers, one of whom came up behind me and blasted me with his air horn - scared me!

Yes...from Florence. I forgot. It was a ride we did fairly often anyway. We live in Grand Junction part time now...hope to ride this one sometime and the one down around Spanish Peaks too.....forgot the name of it.
