Ride The Rockies and Bicycle Tour of Colorado

Is anyone doing these rides?

I am doing BTC. It will be my first supported tour. Day 1, 106 miles over Slumgillion Pass!

I am not doing RTR, but I live in Grand Junction, where the ride starts. I plan on riding the first 2 days with RTR. Day 1 over the Colorado National Monument. Day 2 over Grand Mesa.

There is a guy who rides the BTC on a Schwinn Stingray every year. A friend of mine does mechanic support for that ride.

Good luck on the ride and enjoy it.

I am hoping to be able to do BTC, or another epic ride next year. If my riding improvement this year equals last years it should be a go.

I'm flying out to do RTR. I think I have reservations at the Super 8 on Horizon Rd near I70 for the nights in GJ. Any issue with riding from the College over and back from there? Any tips on restaurants you'd recommend?

Horizon Dr is not far from the college. Maybe a mile. Go west on Horizon Dr to the little traffic circle at Safeway. 3/4 of the way around to the 12th St exit (south) and up the hill. 12th st gets narrow and busy south of Patterson Rd, I don't usually ride that way, but you might not mind it. (There is a quieter route that is a bit more complicated I can tell you about.) Anyway, down 12th st, 4 lights to the college at Elm st. I live near 12th between Horizon Dr and the college.

Kannah Creek Brewery is on 12th at Orchard Ave (you will pass it). Great brew and pizza!

Hi

I live part time in Grand Junction and ride a lot there, on the Mesa and in the Monument. Here is a link to the GJT bike route map. http://www.gjcity.org/CityDeptWebPag...ML/bikemap.pdf

I have ridden Horizon and 7th into and out of downtown. Both are pretty busy and I don't like 7th much at all. Parts are bike lane or shoulders with bike signs or separate paths. There are side roads too but complicated to describe what I do when I ride those. Try the bike route map. I'll be there n a couple weeks and can map a good route for you then if you like. Maybe eofelis can help.

Lots of great restaurants downtown.....Rockslide Brewery, Main Street Bagel, Pablo's Pizza and more. Be sure to go into Browns Cyclery downtown too and say hi to Chris Brown. At North and 10th is The Bike Shop and another main Street Bagel near the college. Out on Horizon by your motel.....WW Peppers is a favorite of ours. If you are out in Fruita, the Hot Tomato is our favorite Pizza.

Also, here is a great website for cycling in the area:

http://tomorrowhillfarm.com/JohnHodgebicycleMaps.html

Enjoy.

Looking forward to some new passes for me this year on the BTC.

If you are out in the 24 Rd. & I 1/2 Rd area on a ride stop by Tomorrow Hill Farm's public water fountain.

I would love to do a http://www.crmbt.com/route.html ride sometime. This year is a great route but I have done all of those roads and passes so many times.

I am lokking forward to La Manga, Cumbres, West side of Wolf and North Pass. Just about the only paved passes I have not done yet in CO.

Have fun CDale.

ride the rockies registration - anyone giving up their spot

For many reasons this is the perfect year for me to do this ride.
I did not know about the ride and thus did not enter the lottery.

I am turning 50 this year and I thought it will be a perfect way to start the 6th decade.
Also my wife and son are going on a school trip to Greece at the same time as the ride and thus I have this time once in a lifetime to do the ride.

Can anyone suggest a way for me to get in to this ride legally. I am sure there are people who have won the lottery but for one reason or another will not be able to make it for the ride.

Help is appreciated.

thanks

You can still sign up for Bike TOur of Colorado.

There's also Craigslist
http://denver.craigslist.org/for/1747631769.html

but I thought you couldn't re-sell an entry, so I don't know how that works.

I was reading some of the earlier posts about motor scooters, stingrays etc. There is a guy in Northern Cal who does a lot of the popular centuries on a self propelled scooter. It has a big wheel in front, small wheel in back. He can really haul in the flats and is no slouch on the hills, We call him ScooterBoy.

Also, I was up riding on the Grand Mesa last week and came across a nice gentleman who was riding over to Cedaredge from Grand Junction on his Catrike. He is training to do the RTR on the trike. He was just getting to the top after 9 hours and looked pretty fresh!

Looking forward to BTC

Hey,

I am also registered for ride the rockies. Initially I thought I will not be able to do the ride. Now it appears that I have the time. I would much rather prefer to stay in Hotels than camp out. Does anyone have experience with staying in hotels thru the alpine connections (sold out apparently) vs camping vs using the tents from the Sherpa service. Help is appreciated. thanks.

Also how does on transfer the bike from Salida back to Grand Junction to take the flight back home. I will be flying from houston and I was thinking of leaving the bike case in the Hotel.
