    looking for decent roads to ride south of kansas city.

    I finally got a week off and I've decided to go as far south/warm as possible that 8 hours can bring me. That puts me just south of Kansas city. How's the riding down there? any crazy drivers? scenery? just looking for a bicycling friendly area.

    also looking for a town to stay for a week.

    Not sure how far south of KC you're looking to go but I do quite a bit of riding south of town. Once you do get south a bit, you end up in some very nice rolling country hills with light traffic and generally decent roads. It's pretty popular to head down through Spring Hill to the Hillsdale Lake area via Old Kansas City Rd. From there I'm sure you can keep going south but your problem becomes figuring out which roads are paved and which suddenly turn to gravel. Anyway, on the KS side, once you get south of 159th street, traffic and people really start to thin out so it's easy to put on some uninterrupted miles. There aren't shoulders on most of those roads but that's never bothered me with the light traffic.

    On the MO side, I haven't done as much riding. I did do a ride to Pleasant Hill a long time ago but can't remember how we got there. I'm sure I can look it up on my Garmin if you're really curious. If you don't want to go that far south of KC, there's not as much unpopulated riding to do. Also, up north near the river is more hilly than farther south. Just something to keep in mind depending on what riding you want to do.

    Google maps can show bike routes and bike trails in your area. Best bet, just ride around everywhere. Make sure you have the entire set of safety equipment and so on for protection

    old kansas city road is the scariest road I've ever been on.
