Platte River - US30 - Nebraska

I am planning a ride from Longmont CO to Milwaukee or Manitowac WI in July as part of a coast-to-coast ride. Thinking of following the Platte River across all of Nebraska using US 30. Will be self-supported but staying in motels so need to use a route with lodging. What do you think of my plan for Nebraska routing?

The stretch between Blair and Missouri Valley is pure awful with truck traffic and no shoulder. I wouldn't recommend that at all. I think somewhere in there I'd head either north or south. Omaha/Council Bluffs has a really cool pedestrian bridge to cross. Check into Warmshowers options through there too.

US 30 is closed in areas on the eastern side of Nebraska ... we have flooding which will stay well through August. Once the Missouri River is full (like now), the Platte won't have anywhere to go.... You could Google a Lincoln or Omaha bike club for contacts to get ideas. One easy map would be to find BRAN (a bike ride across Nebraska) and RAGBRAI (Iowa) itineraries from the past.
