Lookout Mtn Rd conditions?

I'm thinking of doing Lookout Mtn this PM. Anyone know road conditions after our big snow? Thanks! Jere

My back has been acting up (once again) over the past few months, but I reckon I'll be on Lookout on or before Wednesday. So I'll relay the 411 by then --- that is if someone else doesn't do so before then.

I guess that doesn't help you so much for today though, does it?

Good Conditions

I rode up Lookout yesterday up to Buffalo Bill's grave. The roads are fine. There was running water in few spots from snow melt but for the most part the road was dry. Otherwise just be careful of the normal sand around the corners on the descent. Should be a good day for the climb.

Glad to know this. I have been out of state for the last 7 days and taking today and tomorrow as cycling days. I am going to do High Grade today and Lookout tomorrow. I am expecting some water on the road, but with these temps, everything should be fine.

Hey Dark13star,

Keep us updated on the conditions on High Grade. I'm curious to know how much snow is up there and how much sand/gravel are still on the roads.

+1 I rode it yesterday and it was fine with water and sand in spots.

I just got back from Lookout ~20 mins ago and, yes, it's almost all gone now. Still some views of snow covered peaks though.

For those who asked, Highgrade is in good condition. There are a lot of downed trees from the storm and there were a lot of crews cutting them and diverting traffic. Most of the snow is off the road, but a few little mudslides come onto the shoulder.

Up higher on some of the side roads, things got messy. Lots of water running across the road in the afternoon and you need to be really careful of places where gravel driveways were plowed across the street.

I did about 50 miles today with about 5,500' of climbing. Tomorrow I will probably do Lookout-Cabrini-Paradise to take it a little easier.

*BUMP for 2012!*

Should be in the 60's on Saturday -- how's Lookout looking so far this year?

Well, I only did the first 1.5 miles of Lookout today as I'm coming off a broken hip this season. I extrapolated my time over the 4.5 mile climb and I'm about 11 minutes slower than last year.

As usual, front range wind on any day > 50 degrees and before June was brutal -- this was at ~12:30pm. There were still bunches of riders going up and down though so I'm assuming, aside from some runoff/snowmelt, things are fine all the way to the top.

Unbelievably great day to get out and it was a welcome shot of sun for my pasty white legs.

I stand corrected.

I had a terrible cold yesterday. I don't know what was more miserable, the cold symptoms or not riding on a 60 degree day in February.
