Bike vacation to Boulder -- Timing it with the weather

I'd like to take a trip (I live in Chicago) to Boulder at some point this spring for 4-5 days of mountain riding. Not entirely familiar with the weather other than the fact that it can be pretty unpredictable. With that said, I know it can be a crap shoot, but how early can I go out there with a relatively safe chance that I'd be able to ride up in the foothills without too many weather problems?

If you're worried about snow, it usually melts pretty quickly (and it's not uncommon to get snow in May). Afternoon storms, if they do occur, usually blow through pretty quickly.

The second half of April is probably as safe as you're going to get. First half of April is usually beautiful, but we can still have major spring storms. Same with the second half of April, but less likely. May is usually gorgeous. In June we typically start getting daily afternoon thunderstorms.

Mid-May. There will probably be lots of awesome ride-able weather in late April, but it's too unpredictable to pin a vacation on it, if you are going to take time off from work and fly. If you can reschedule at the last minute and look at the forecast right before you go and then decide, then April might work.
