Mickelson Trail Question

I'm thinking of a Bike Overnight trip this summer from Deadwood to Hill City. I notice there are a few tunnels along the route and was wondering if anybody has been through them, and are they very long?? I get creeped out by long dark tunnels.
Thanks!

Since it sounds like you've ridden this trail, are bikes with 700x32 tires going to be ok on this trail? And what kind of hills are there? Thanks.

I've always ridden mtn bike tires a friend did ride 23c's I would think for most part 700x32's will work there will be some places where washouts will make you walk for 100 yards or so but there was a place last yr I walked my mtn bike

hills? does a trail in the black hills have hills? depends on you view as hills its railroad grade so nothing steep are there climbs miles and miles and miles long here's a link to the topo is listed on this link SD GFP | State Parks | Directory | Mickelson Trail | Trailheads

32mm is probably enough. I know a guy who used to lead tours on the Mickelson, and he said 35mm was enough for everything. There are some loose sections, and some with large gravel, so I use 38mm tires. Most of the trail is railroad grade, although there is one very steep hill near Deadwood (click on "3" on the link given by colorado dale). It can be bypassed by going up around Sugar Loaf on the way south, which is worth it for the views anyway.

Thanks Colorado Dave and Radeln. I've been to the Black Hills before, just not on bike. Wasn't sure what kind of shape the trail was in, so thanks for the info.
