Newsletter March 18th Auto-shifting Shimano DI2 With A Smartphone?

There’s an app for that. Developed by Cambridge Consultants from the UK and reported by gizmag.

“Unveiled yesterday, the system is controlled by an app on a handlebar-mounted iPhone, and incorporates a stock Shimano Di2 electronic gear-shifting system. Other components include wheel rotation sensors, and a pedaling cadence sensor.”

Bicycle Retailer magazine also reported that Shimano has filed for patents that would incorporate, slope, heart rate, and pedal torque – amongst others – to go into an auto shifting calculation.

I am still using a standard shift (albeit, clutch less) on my car so don’t see a need for it on bikes – but I also thought index shifting wasn't needed.

Thanks for reading – John Neugent

Still get an extra 10% off our wide rim wheels. As I write this, the rims have just arrived at LAX so we should have them in a few days. Your credit card won’t be charged until we ship.

Special sale - additional 10% off ALL custom wheels. Out Internet pricing is already low but for this weekend take another 10% off (discount taken at checkout). Choose from some of the best rims and hubs and have us build the wheels to your specifications.
