    South Coast Bikeway

I'd appreciate any information on the South Coast Bikeway from Fall River RI to Bourne, MA (southcoastbikeway.com) . Do the sections that say "off road" mean that it is gravel/dirt or that it is a separate paved path from the road? Seems from the website that sections are incomplete; would it be safe to just follow the nearby roads?

We've ridden the New Bedford stretch back in 1996, much on Route 6, but I don't know how much traffic has increased in 19 years! We're planning to do this in early September, 2015 as part of a longer self-supported tour.

    Appreciate any advice. LindaB

I can't speak to the bikeway itself, but I rode this route in October, very nice scenic ride (starts in Westport at Horseneck beach) and not very busy roads Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride - A bike ride in Westport, MA A portion of it went through the Fairhaven bike path, there's a small portion through a new bike path at the New Bedford beach and a little bit on the canal path, but mainly on the roads
