Bicycle Parking (Bike Racks) at LaGuardia Airport (LGA)

Does anyone know if LaGuardia Airport offers bike racks? (If not at the airport, itself, anywhere nearby that's practical?)

Thank you.

According to Page 46 of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's airport regulations, no bicycles are allowed in the airport, except those ridden by police. https://www.panynj.gov/airports/pdf/R...on_8_04_09.pdf

That means no bike racks in the airport, unfortunately.

Hope this helps.

Damn. I guess I'll have to lock up outside the airport, as close to it as possible. (May I mention how absurd I find it that cars are not only welcome but accommodated at the Airport, and bicycles are expressly prohibited?)

Does anyone have recommendations of the easiest way to reach LaGuardia from mid-Manhattan?

Thanks.

>>>Does anyone have recommendations of the easiest way to reach LaGuardia from mid-Manhattan?<<<<

59th Street Bridge, through Astoria, to 94th St, and across the Grand Central Parkway. I had a route for this, but a few people improved on it recently in a thread entitled "Escaping NYC/Long Island Expressway Service Road."

I've ridden all the way through LGA before and it's quite dangerous. Also, in seven years of constant traveling in and out of there, I remember seeing one bike locked to a fence at the end of the Delta terminal almost every day and one wheel locked to a fence at the west end of the Main terminal for about 6 1/2 years. Bottom line: I've been through every publicly-accessible nook and cranny in that airport and never saw a bike rack.

How about making arrangements with the Clarion Hotel, located right across the parkway on 94th Street, to take your bike while you're away?

Thanks, Papa Tom (I feel as if I'm in a porno, as I say that...). I'm planning a one- or two-day trip, so the bike would remain locked up outside (at least, I hope it remains locked up outside — ). I might try a "test-run," soon, so not to risk bewilderment on the day of departure.

See if you get "tagged" as a possible security threat for pulling up on your bicycle and trying to get on a plane. I would probably pull you aside for extra questioning!

I still think he should have locked it at the Clarion Hotel, across the street.

I've called around to outside parking lots with shuttles to LaGuardia and U Save Parking has bike parking for $3/day with a 5 minute shuttle to the airport. It seemed like a new idea to them, but they were willing to do it and they lock the bikes up indoors. https://www.usavelga.com

Made a reservation for this weekends, so I'll let you guys know how it goes!

I think you are mis-interpreting the PDF

Hi - I just had a look at the PANJNY PDF referenced above and it says

...no person shall ride a scooter or any self-propelled vehicle or device on or through any part of the terminals, parking lots, escalators, moving sidewalks, elevators, staircases, on-airport buses or Rail Transportation Systems,...
To my understanding the "Terminals" are the buildings. So you cant ride your bike in the buildings themselves (or the "parking lots, escalators, moving sidewalks, elevators, staircases, on-airport buses or Rail Transportation Systems") - makes sense. But you can ride on the (public accessible) roads round the airport.

Doesn't mean that its safe to bike there however.

The latest draft of the Port Autority's Bicycle Master Plan (Sept 2010) outlines a proposed safe bike route to LaGuardia (and JFK and Newark), with bike parking by terminals C and D. I don't think the plan has come to fruition yet.
See page 26 for the LaGuardia map.
Next time I'm there I'll check to see if, at least, the bike racks are installed.

Thank you.

I've read this entire thread - the Bike Master Plan is from 2010. https://www.panynj.gov/about/pdf/pan...aster-plan.pdf

I'm having trouble finding anything more recent on this issue? Did anyone below follow through?

Cappy,

Did you ever see if they installed the bike racks? I'm flying this week and would really like to know.

Elaess,

Did you follow through with that reservation? I'd love to know how it went. It's five years later and I would like to park my bike at the airport!
