NYC / NJ: Cops Ticketing on River Road in Palisades

Just a heads up, cops in the Palisades Interstate Park are now issuing summonses to cyclists for speeding and other traffic violations, including riding on closed roads. The guy who stopped me indicated this was a new policy to justify additional state funds to the Park Police. According to him, cops are being given quotas of summonses to issue each month or week.

Suggest finding other routes.

do you mean the Henry Hudson drive? when you said closed roads, do you mean when the park is not open for cars (spring and late fall?) also what is the speed limit on the trail? thanks in advance.

The speed limit is 25mph, easy to exceed on some of the steeper downhills

good to know, the stretch before reaching the police station can easily push to 30s going down. The road is less than idea at some parts anyways.

Yes, by "River Road," I mean HH drive (most folks call it River Road, I've found). And by "closed roads," I'm honestly not sure. The reason for my uncertainty is that the park authority will often gate off portions of the road itself at many times of the year, but will state on its website that the full road is open to cyclists. That notwithstanding, the cop who stopped me indicated he would ticket me if I road out the way I came -- through a gated off section. What I suspect his commander actually meant was bits of road like Dyckman hill, where cycling is prohibited outright, year-round. But honestly your guess is as good as mine.
