The Rest of NY: Good ride today?

Since this is working very well for Long Island, and Boston. Why don't we do it.

To keep this fun, not a place to brag about how far or fast you went.

I will start. This morning, I went on a cold rainy ride on the Catherine Valley Trail. I rode form Millport, to Seneca lake and back. I didn't take my phone but I am guessing this was 14 miles or so. It was not a enjoyable ride, cold wind and rain.

Got out late, but did a short ride up the west side greenway to its northern end in Inwood Hill park. Poached a table at Pier I on the way back to eat my protein bar and finish my water bottle.

Was today by any chance rent a touron a bike day? They seemed to be out in force.

Well since the Bills had the game in hand by early 4th quarter off I went to the Erie Canal. I started at Sims Store (Camillus) headed West to Warners Park. I did continue on some toward Memphis NY (West) but eventually turned around and headed back. I continued back East past Sims store and stopped at the Aquaduct and then back to the car.

It was cloudy, I think we have about maybe 12 days of leaves yet. Its still mixed here but all in all it was a nice 9 mile ride, no rush. Heres some photos below.

Sims Store Boathouse

This heads toward Memphis NY (West)

Warners Park (This is approximately half way between Buffalo and Albany on this trail.

Camillus Aquaduct (it actually works)

If the weather holds I might hit another trail tomorrow. Now back to my loosing fantasy team lol

Well since the Bills had the game wrapped up in the early 4th qtr I figure I go for a bike ride to the Erie Canal Park. I started at Sims Store (Camillus) headed west to Warners Park then turned back East toward Fairmount. Total ride was about 9 miles distance wise. Took my cruising time maybe an hour .5.

Leaves are still good here I figure we have a good two weeks left.

Heres a photo from yesterday

Did a few rides this weekend. Corning NY to Horseheads, NY. It was a beautiful day, a beautiful ride.

Sunday, I did Lackawana Rail trail from Elmira NY to wellsburg NY and back. This trail is in ruff shape. I won't be doing it again unless they take care of it.

Monday morning, a beautiful ride, on the Catherine Valley Trail. Millport NY to Watkins Glen NY and back.

Tuesday - Nothing, I was ill and the wind is killer. I am at work now, so I will mostl likely go to the gym today and pedal for a bit.

I really have a lot to improve on. including my cadence, my leg strength, and my power for climbing.

Taking advantage of indian summer I did 48 miles up to Piermont and back to NYC. Rode inland through Bergen County and returned on 9W. What a day for a ride!

Did a 40mile loop from the Bx to Manhattan, then to Queens last Saturday. And just a 3mile commute to work on a daily basis, so approx 6miles in a work weekday. Have to get on the saddle more since it's not much heat anymore, though the headwinds may be too brutal for me at times lol. Hudson Greenway is always a joy to ride in though, scenery's always nice no matter what time of the day it is.

Since today brought about 60 degree weather, I went for a ride on the erie canal trail. I basically just rode in the Camillus / Warners area. Leaves are pretty much done, the ground is still soft so I may have a few more days. If the weather holds this weekend I may take a longer ride heading west.

But today was nice...

This is an entrance to a culvert trail.

A view of the working aquaduct (I would imagine they will drain that shortly)

I just got back from a ride. The weather is full sun and mid 50s so it was a pleasent ride. I rode a Lackawana trail form Elmira NY to Wellsburg NY. Such a awful surface Full of weeds and stone and not maintained. I rude back up Lower Maple Ave.

The weather is pleasant. I am excited about Thanksgiving. Hoping the weather is nice enough for a heritage rail trail ride with my nephews.

Ohh no I never signed up for that lt is pretty popular tho. Yea id be into rides this coming year. Most likely in a couple of weeks it will snowy up hear and realistically pretty damn cold lol. But next year for sure...

But today was nice here as well. I just rode a stretch between Camillus and Warners of the Erie Canal. I had my first breakdown of the year, chain popped off lol. I just popped it back on accordingly. It happened as I entered the warners park area. The leaves are pretty much done for here maybe another week. I think they close a trail that goes around Onondaga Lake this weekend .I might try and get over there one more time...

But yea today was nice...Here is the code for uploading photos. If you upload a pic say on facebook. Copy that (https://code) and then when your typing in here "paste" that code between

Example the below photo is the breakdown of my chain pop I typed

Heres a photo of the trail I was on. The leaves are pretty much done now

You can upload an image directly in advanced mode by clicking on the paper clip and selecting an image to upload. Unfortunately they only allow small images. There is atable at the bottom of the dialog box that gives the restrictions

Hey Steve,
i just did that ride 2 weeks ago. I went from the Fire Academy to Seneca Lake. I think it was only 7 miles round trip. The next day i tried the hill climb behind the Academy. Man that was tough, I was zigzagging up the hill until a car came then I had to go straight. That's when I lost it.. Walked up the rest. Man that's a tough climb-I was on my Cross Bike.

Crossed the Hudson and rode the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway down to Liberty State Park in Jersey City and taking the ferry back to Manhattan. Great riding weather even though it started out pretty chilly in the morning.

Boy I wouldnt think I would be going for a bike ride in the second week of November but with a day like this, one must take advantage lol. Todays excursion was at Onondaga Lake loop the lake trail. I started at the west side by the fairgrounds and did the east side as well. They're putting up the "lights on the lake" xmas displays (its a big thing around here lol) so I took a cruise thru there. One the way back I hit the Lakeland trail which is a nice crushed stone trial that separates off the main trail. Ended up being a 15 mile cruise.

If I wake up to 2 ft of snow tomorrow I would take today as being a great end to the season until Spring. But lol. Who knows maybe the weather will cooperate for another week or so..

candy cane alley lights on the lake

Lakeland Trail

She worked hard lol. A stop at the watering hole lol

EnjoyinTheRide,

I've been EnjoyinTheHeck out of your pictures. I spent 4 years living in Madison County and have never gotten my love for Central NY out of my system. I have not lived there for 30+ years but have returned many times to bike tour, hunt, and camp. I'm disappointed in myself for letting 2016 go without a trip up to those hills. Next year for sure. Maybe I'll do the Erie Canal towpath again.

Please keep 'em coming.

67 degrees lol, who would have thought that lol. Plus Sunshine?? Off I went to the Camillus section of the Erie Canal. I started East towards Fairmount and turned back to Sims Store, Camillus. Then I followed a 5k run course on a road that runs parallel to the canal. Theres a little dip in that gets me back on the canal trail so I hit that and cruised back to my car.

Every now and then you come up with a tree that still has colorfull leaves on it. Leaves are 95% gone but whats left is holding steady. Must have been all that rain we had. Snow in the forecast for Friday lol...

aqua duct rest stop

Cruising over the aqua duct

Hittin the highway lol.

Took another run today at the canal. Went from Camillus to Memphis and back. Beautiful day, sunny 55, they say some real cold comes in over the weekend. It was breezy today but overall no complaints. About 8 miles total

Half way to Memphis

Could you imagine when this was active. It hung just above the trail itself..
