New England weather sux
Snow sleet and rain yesterday with the sanders laying down the sand and salt last night, three days of heavy rain coming up Sunday night into next week. Getting any consistant training rides in has been next to impossible this spring.... I don't care though, I'm going out tonight, tomorrow and Sunday and will push myself hard for two of the three days - gotta take em while you can, even if it means overtaxing yourself to get yourself in condition. There'll be plenty of time for recovery starting Sunday afternoon into next week.

So how many miles does everyone plan on riding once the sun breaks out in earnest this Friday? I'll probabably do an easy 20 miles on friday, and then 50 on Saturday when Spring finally arrives.
Is it my imagination or has the beginning of this bike season been one of the worst in recent memory? Or maybe I feel this way the start of every bike season. This weather though does make one appreciate the fine weather that's suppose to be coming up and lasting into next week.
I hope everyone gets a chance to get out an enjoy it.

Newb here from Central MA. Got out on 3/31 for just under 20 miles. Great day. Went out the week after on Saturday for about the same distance. Chilly! I'm just now getting back into biking. I've had a 2000 Specialized Hardrock for 7 years now but only have maybe 50 miles plus the 35 or so put on this season. Not much. Prior to that 15 yrs or so ago I had a Bridgestone road bike. I'm just looking to put so casual miles on now that I'm almost pushing 50. Jut discovered this site a month or so ago and really enjoy it. I'll definately be out Saturday on the Ayer rail trail. Friday through Monday looks the best with more rain for the end of next week. Ugggg!

I'm in Derry. I've just started riding again and have done an orientation ride with GSW. I'm also taking their LAB Road I class at NH Tech that started last week. I'm hoping to be able to take part in the Seacoast Century in Sept if I can get comfortable on the roads.

Chele- The seacost century is a great ride! nice and flat, great views, but can get a bit windy in some spots. I will hopefully be doing that century ride again this year with GSW!

Well, I'll be happy if I can do the 25 miles. I'm normally a runner but after a stress fracture that sidelined me for 3 months this year, I want to do more cross training. I need a goal for motivation so I thought that would be a good one since you don't have to do the full 100. I know the area is beautiful and I think it would be a lot of fun.

chele- stress fractures = no fun. I have been there before. After training some on the bike you will see your milage go up. I first thought people who did 30+ mile rides were nuts however now I do that daily (ive only been cycling for a year).
have you tried swimming at all too? Swimming provides AMAZING cross training for cardio and what not and is also very easy on the bones

I'm sure I could get my mileage up to 25 without a problem, I've done 10 easy but my endurance is low in general since I took so much time off. My biggest problem is getting used to riding in traffic. I'm still nervous there and need to work on that primarily. If I can get that taken care of, the ride itself would be fine.
I did some swimming while recovering from the stress fracture. I got a little bored though, swimming laps. There is a town beach so once it is warmer weather, I'm planning to do some swimming there. I used to do open water swim training with a triathlon group but that was years ago. I did find it much more interesting than the pool.

I was thinking of trying some group rides out of the Souhegan Cycle Works in Milford - anyone familiar with them? They intrigued me because they do pacelines, but I don't average over 20MPH unless it's totally flat.
I haven't done a Goodale's ride, but I've bought lots of stuff from Ron there - good guy.

I'm in Kittery and have been doing fun rides up and down the coast. Can anyone give me any ideas for a 40 to 50 mile ride in the Newburyport area (not from Kittery!)? Thanks!

I know I'm kinda bumping the thread. But I just joined, and I am from the Lowell/Dracut area. Getting back into road cycling as my past bike was broken and so was the wallet.

Speaking of this, anyone recommend any nearby off-street rides like this in the Northern MA/S.NH area? I often hit Great Brooke Farms (Carlisle, MA) for mt.biking and Mine Falls (Nashua, NH).
