there is an annual [Thursday/Thanksgiving] , fun, mountain bike ride at patapsco state park (avalon area) from the trailhead opposite the park and ride off the i-195 exit. The details for the mountain bike ride are as follows:

Photo at 9, get back on the trail for a fun social ride no later than 0930, sooner if possible. Tell as many people as you like. And also let them know where they can view the photo. https://donaldstar@aol.com. So far weather looks good for thursday......

Last years photo can be found
https://donaldstar.smugmug.com/sports/622615/ if you print the first 5 photos in the gallery and join them together you have a 44 11" photo, 80 people, 80 bikes.

We can top that.

That's pretty funny! Craig Martin has seen me knock back a beer or, um, several at the MS150 post-ride parties, but I guess none of the others know my evil secrets.

I do think work will calm down in the near future . . . just in time for all the snow and ice. *sigh*

Mnt bikers: We might have to change venues. 80+ cyclist descending on Avalon does not make for a great mnt biking day. Where did you get this post Barry?

Ever since I started bike commuting I have not been sick very often. I went 5 years with no illness'. However I have had a cold the last 2 years. I just got over my last one. Didn't kick my ***** but it stayed w/ me for over a week.

Now I work in my garage and have to find time to ride, which I usually don't.
Last February, I rode down to the MD bike symposium in Annapolis, only a few cyclist there as it was during the week and in February! Barry was there, gave his presentation. Maybe this year we can plan ahead and show up in force.

Charlie-Thanks for the ski info. I did some indoor climbing for a while, took a class with my son, lots of fun. Still have all the stuff in my closet.
I hardly see any. There's a guy I ride with occasionally if I come home late. Sometimes a UMBC student. I bet you miss your bike ride to Hampden. I turned down a job because the commute would have sucked and I would have to give up my bike ride. If you ever want to climb let me know. I usually climb Tues/Thurs evening 5:30-8:00. It would put you in some nasty traffic though.

It maybe that the board learned my evil secret.

Is thing going on Thanksgiving day or the day after? not clear. I agree-I don't know if I want to play bumper bikes. On the illness thing-I just have a cold but it has kicked my ass, I have gone years without getting sick-it's the nursery school.

I felt better yesterday around noon so I took my mt. bike out for a quick spin down to Robert E Lee. Went our for an hour, maybe 5 to 7 miles, fun, felt okay, not great, got back and all my symptoms returned. I'm taking it easy with low expectations of running a 5k tomorrow and biking on Friday.

It's going on Thanksgiving day. The post came through the Mayor's morning riders group.

That's the other Turkey Trot. I'm doing the one at the Towson YMCA. I signed up my 14 year old son as well so I gotta run it. I'm sure I can beat him even in my compromised health.

Ah... ok.

I've run the one in Bel Air, once... in 2004. It was pretty slow--27 minutes according to their records. I had 26:45 on my watch--still slow.

Here's my running resume:

I'm pretty new to this so that time would be fast for me. If I can break 30 minutes I'm happy, for now.
I know my son will be walking some, so I told him that I may shoot ahead.

Maybe we should reschedule. I'm nursing this cold/flu thing. Ran my 5k today since I already paid but probably should take it easy. Let me know what you guys are thinking, I could probably do it but would be taking it easy, maybe. Josh, did you already get a sitter?

Charlie,
Sorry about your friend.

the wife isn't going out so I am a go, I think we've all been off the MTB for so long so we'd probally all have to go easy. I'm a little slower on the MTB than the road bike. Let me know.

Hey Josh,
I'm going to try and make it but I've got the serious bronchial thing going now. I'm going to have to see how I feel at 7am, feeling pretty bad right now. Haven't seen a post by Derath as to whether he's going or not. If you don't see me at 8 then ride on. Sorry to be indecisive but don't want to get sicker.

I'll shoot you my contact info in PM, call me either way, I undertand the whole sick thing, my boy started school and has been passing things around my house.

I think MTB is a little dangerous solo, I never go alone. main reason for not being on the bike. If derath replies I'll go.

If we don't go, maybe I'll get on the road bike for a few miles.

Did this BBC Ride today:

https://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/19040

MAP

Elevation (ft)

Speed (mph)

I'm spending the night at my parents place tonight, then tomorrow morning I'll do a ride from here leaving my backpack of clothes. After the ride, I'll pass by my parents place to pick the bag up on my way home.

I haven't really planned where I'll ride to yet. Maybe I'll just GPS surf.

GB's back.

Charlie is right on about the snow. Teresa and I barely made it out to the family reunion as the area was getting its first hard dousing of snow. Had to park the car at the bottom of the hill and get a ride from a 4-wheel drive up to the house. The fixie had about 3" of built up ice on the bottom of the wheels from the drive. Roads were barely driveable until yesterday afternoon. Trails were def. not an option with those tires. I had thoughts of riding anyway, but I think I just would've gotten myself hurt. This was the closest I got to riding:

HOWEVER, the whole area around Canaan Valley and Blackwater is stunningly beautiful. Did some crazy sledding with the extended family down some of the ski slopes and got in a long meandering drive with Teresa before a great Thanksgiving dinner. Wonderful time. Gotta go back sometime soon. Sadly, the signs of mountaintop removal mining practices are all around you. WV is so poor they just don't have the power to say 'no' to the coal industry so large areas of the state are being reduced to rubble. Still beautiful none the less. Happy to be home.

Hey GB, welcome back, you should have brought skis.

My weekend seems to be a wash, bailed on mt. biking with Josh due to this flu that won't go away. Did get the 5k Turkey Trot in, which probably made things worse.

DCrand is doing a ride down in St. Mary's county on Saturday, long haul though.

I hope to be back by Monday. Keep us posted on the proposed "on again, off again" ride.

Pics from the beer ride: https://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...f&id=513493075

A short video: https://video.google.com/videoplay?do...13872392794890
[noracer is the guy with the tail light, Greater Brown is the one with the fixie, I'm the one who in his moment of glory on pulling ahead took a wrong turn at the bottom of the hill. Heavy sigh. at least I had fun.]

I thought mounting the cam on the helmet would make the video more stable but for mister has to look around and check his mirrors it really isn't working well.
