Looks like the core group of winter dcrand riders. I hope to do the brevet on the 13th, maybe I'll see them then.

Piney Point
I enjoyed the pictures of your group ride. That ride is a part of our club ride on some Saturdays and Sundays, and is always a part of our Tuesday Night Winter Ride. (Piney Point and St. Georges Island) I am sure you enjoyed the Southern Maryland roads as much as we do.

Josh: go to the electronic forum. Lots of info on the P7. If memory serves(often it does not) the P7 is really bright but mixed reviews on quality.

Today was first time on a bike since last Wednesday's commute. Rather balmy. My knee has been swelling lately, I think it's due to too much work around the house. Hunters are out in full force. I couldn't cut through my wooded section this morning.

I found out that I can synch my BiM GPS GPX file with the iBike ride file. Once synchronized, it would look something like the attached picture. Using an "Equation of Motion" with speed and elevation as known quantities, a power curve can be generated from the GPX file. The calculated average power from the GPX file was only 3 watts different than the iBike's average.

An adventurous BBC club ride for me today. Probably best you didn't join me Harry.
Bad decision #1: Decided on a whim to grab the fixie for the ride.
I rode out to Oregon Ridge and felt strong enough. The ride brought a nice crew of BBC regulars. I lost the group at the first big downhill on Cuba then caught up, then lost them, then caught up. We hit a few long ascents which got me to the front of pack and I started going strong and leading the group.
This clearly, was bad decision #2. I was riding way too hard and began paying for it after 20 miles. Soon, I was not able to catch up after downhills and began hurting on the ascents. A few miles later and I was forced to walk steeper sections. By this point, half of the original riders had pealed off and the few remaining were clearly waiting on me. We passed the NCR trail and it called to me.
Finally, decision #3 was a good one. I yelled to the ride leader, Renee that I was heading down the trail. After a few miles on the level ground of the trail, I got to Hunt Valley. Sat down for a warm late lunch just as the rain started to fall. As soon as I finished, the rain had stopped. I hopped on the light rail and headed home.
Overall, a good ride. It was also a great reminder for me that out-of-the-ordinary stresses on your body can sure surprise you with how fast they can bring you down.

I don't mind saying that I did an hour inside with Coach Troy yesterday. I've always had a problem in winters with cold damp air, my lungs don't handle it well, I believe something to do with staph Pneumonia when I was a kid. I asked my neighbor, the Hopkins pulmanologist if such an event would harm your lung capacity for life. He said there are ways of checking. So I'm thinking of doing that, and a vo2 max test as well. That of course won't keep me in all winter.
Hey commuters, hope you had a safe trip in. As I was impatiently waiting for our van to defrost to take my son to school (he usually takes the bus but he had a big project to transport) I thought if I were riding a bike I would be on my way by now, no need to scrape the windshield of a bike or wait for the defroster to kick in, though suiting up takes a bit longer. Of course in that short trip to Towson High I saw a number of traffic issues, including a nasty two lane blocking accident that happened right in front of me by Towson U. Makes me wonder how many accidents routinely happen in MD during daily commutes how much gas is used/wasted per day. As a non commuter I am always amazed when say coming by bike over the beltway on Falls from Hillside and looking down at the standstill traffic, people do that every day!!

Yeah,... the ride was semi-crappy. At 3:30pm, I step outside to prep the bike to leave and it's raining and sleeting. I kept catching squalls of it all of the way home. When I finally pulled up into my front yard, it had stopped, the sun shone producing a rainbow in the eastern sky.

Stupid stuff I see on my commute: I saw a car this AM that didn't clean its ice off of the windshield. He couldn't see other cars let alone little ole' me. As for the sensors that never turn green at stop lights: At work I have to lay my bike down OR cut through some single track...I cut through the ST. I also zigzag the large rectangle patch sensor in Catonsville. Seems to work.
As for yesterdays commute home....never saw the rain/sleet. We didn't get drop in Beltsville. When I got to my Balto bike I realized it had been raining but skies were clear. Anybody see the moon w/ Venus and Saturn adjacent to it last night. They will not be that close for another 50 years. It was kinda cool looking. Never would have noticed if I was in a car.

Yes! It was the one bright moment of (yet another!) excessively long day at work. As I was walking out of the building in the pitch dark, I looked up and saw that display. Very lovely. I didn't know what I was looking at until I got home (Google is my friend ) although I knew they were too bright to be stars.

WV is not flat..
It was actually Venus and Jupiter. It was very cool to break out the telescope and check it out. Even with an inexpensive scope you can see 3 of Jupiters moons...Very cool indeed..

It's on my list. Unfortunately I made the bright decision that an economic downturn is the perfect time to quit your job and start your own company. Actually it hasn't been a bad decision, but i have been a bit preoccupied with getting the cash flowing rather than getting out to ride.

I've been spinning (Coach Troy-Spinervals) the past few days followed by five minutes of a hacking cough. It's actually a good concentrated workout, about 1 hour 15 minutes, keeping it in the aerobic fat burning mode, not exceeding my aerobic threshold. Of course I really don't have an accurate measure of my aerobic threshold.
Do need to get out. Josh-looks like mt. biking will happen.
