TDP must have stumbled a bit this year. I never got any info about it- nothing mailed or emailed which is strange, after being a volunteer last year.

Josh, you riding it with the littlin's

Hey GB I went to their site recently and there was no volunteer sign up. Perhaps too late or they have enough. I think my AM is free for volunteering if needed but I'm not riding in it. Perhaps Barry will post something. There's always the Honfest to check out. Perhaps both in one day! I got your PM thanks but what do you think its worth $$$$.$$??

BTW I bumped into this thread and thought for sure it was you selling a Heron.

Rode 88 miles today (took the day off from work--with pay, of course). Lost my cell phone during the ride. I had to have Verizon suspend the account until I can decide which new one I want--it has to be able to do VZNavigator and BiM.

I haven't blogged the ride yet, but it's hand-mapped and comes very close to what I got with my iBike mileage--88 miles +/- 0.2 miles.

It was probably for the good that I ran into problems, because I'm sure I could have gotten myself into bigger problems if I hadn't had to turn around. The plan was to keep riding until dark--however far that would have taken me into Delaware towards OCMD--no accommodations, change of clothing, ... nothing but me and the bike. And, a small backpack of -crap- that after awhile I was regretting dragging along, since it was so humid when I started at 7am.

NoRacer 06-12-09 06:11 PM

Here's the interactive (Google) map of the ride (Conowingo Loop):

http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/route_det...e&m2=findroute

The blog is not much different. I had nothing more to say other than what is in the Notes section and what I stated above:

I just lost my phone today on a 50 mile ride. Where you by BWI/Patapsco?

Here's the rest of the story.

Got home and looked up the phone using BiM Live Tracking. I turn the map to "hybrid". The last location seems to show the phone in a house. I drive to the house and ring the doorbell. This late-twenty-something dude answers the door. I ask if he found a cell phone at the Royal Farm Store just up the road... that the phone has tracking software on it and it looked like it's here in his house. He denies having it, so I said, "Well, I guess I'll have to have Verizon suspend the account."

I drive to White Marsh and have Verizon suspend the account.

That's it.

Luckily, there's nothing of real importance on the phone on the 1 Gig memory card, but a little bit of playing around (until the account was suspended) and whoever has it could have very well gotten into my two email accounts without needing to know the passwords. I won't set that up like that again.

Wow, crazy story. How accurate is your tracking device? Shame if he really had it. I guess you have to reinstall your phone numbers? That will suck. Usually takes me 5 minutes per number....if I have my glasses.

I rode it last year and will be there this year as well. I received a few emails about the ride GB - maybe the volunteers got forgotten? (that would stink).

That's great NoRacer - sort of hoping he did have the phone - he must have pooped his pants! Did he "look" guilty?

veloellen 06-13-09 12:43 PM

Who will be at Tour dem Parks tomorrow either riding or volunteering? My husband will have my son on the Trek tandem and I'll be on my new Kona Dr. Dew. We are doing the 34 mile ride (i think thats the mileage).

The Human Car 06-13-09 01:13 PM

I'm my way home today Harry ran into me quite literally. Well OK, not that literally but he was out running in Rolland Park while I was taking a break at Starbucks.

The Human Car 06-13-09 01:42 PM

Re: Tour dem Parks, hon! We are expecting 1000 people, big jump over last year from just over 300. We have two kegs donated for the after party and will buy more if needed. It's going to be fun and crazy! Some of the committee is concerned if we have enough volunteers but since we have not done this large of an event it is really hard to say. But even if you do ride, just keeping an eye out that people on route are having a good time and/or taking some of the new to cycling in the city folks under your wing would help. And yes I will be there volunteering by putting my big mouth to use. :D Not to mention trying trying to raise support for One Less Car.

The 36 mile route was a lot of fun to work out and you should enjoy that route. The metric century as well worked out real nice trying to splice that in with our main route and rest areas. Some of the tweaks to add millage or how to avoid certain bad sections worked out better then anticipated.

veloellen 06-13-09 05:01 PM

Awesome Barry - we'll see you tomorrow. Great jump in participants!

It's pretty accurate, especially if the phone wasn't moving around.

Verizon does a daily back up of my phone numbers on their network, automatically. I would restore from there.

Yeah, he did, especially when I said there is tracking software on the phone.

Oh well, It's a brick now.

I really wanted to do TDP but when signing up I saw it would be $45 for us to do it, 12 miles with a 50/50 chance the baby won't scream and cry the whole time, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I know the boy wold love it, but the baby, once she gets going, she never stops until out and being held. I speak from experience, being 3 miles away from the car on the BA trail with a screaming child in tow is a nightmare. Maybe next year, she's be 2 then :)

No riding today, spent a day cutting wood with my father in law.

On another note, I now work at a truck shop on hanover st so my daily commuting begins monday :) , darn I won't be climbing out of ellicot city anymore. (left landover due to slow business and go to ellicot city and 2 months later work got slow, not the best time to be a truck technician)

NoRacer 06-13-09 08:31 PM

Sheesh, finally got this thing hand-mapped:

http://bimactive.com/ba/ui/route_det...s&m2=findroute

I'll do the blog entry tomorrow. Got to go to bed. Tired.

I wasn't going to do it but now thinking about it. I will be on the Trek 520 with blue panniers, getting some semi loaded touring training for hopeful future tours. I figure I'll ride down to the start.

Yah, was doing my 5 mile weekend run, well run-walk. Saw the bike and knew who it belonged to.

If money is an issue for TDPH please see me at the event I can pull strings (tall guy with signature black baseball cap and gray beard) especially for families.

My phone has been found at MDOT HQ so I've got another run to BWI this week. GB or Harry are you up for doing this together on Monday? Others?

Oh and my GPS track of our Monument to Monument ride: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...Monument310292

Oh and did I mention Brewer's Art beer? :D

Been there done that. I was sure when we got to our car child protective services would be waiting for us! It gets better - in a few years!
