At the risk of sounding like a huge sap (I am), I cannot express how great it makes me feel to come home after a big epic bicycling adventure and log into BF and read about everyone else's big epic cycling adventures !!!

Love it, love it, love it.

Patrick- tooling around Mt. Wash, Harry- on his sunday morning regular with the guys, Barry- planting trees !!!, Teresa- telling me stories of the huge turnout for the Jack Yates ride.

    Good stuff. Thanks y'all.

I feel queasy just thinking about this post ride feast.

Gb-My ride wasn't very epic, 30 miles and barely broke a sweat. Felt super on the bike though, maybe those repeas up Bellemore are paying off.
Your epic sounds like a success. The tandem couple must have benn Chuck and Crista.
My wife wouldn't be too happy if I rolled out at 7am and back at 6pm, oh well.

When I was marathon training, there'd be days on a 20 miler that I'd stop for a Whopper with cheese and a large soda.

Yesterday, Andy had some leftover from lunch. I believe he poured it into one of his water bottles for consumption on the way back to Oregon Ridge from York.

I'll post this here as well:
Over the years I've watched Baltimore's Mayor fitness level go up from just a casual cyclists to one that does centuries and now on a beach cruiser bike pulling a trailer with a tree and still giving people a run for their money.

Anyway a fun little video to watch:

That can't be you riding on the sidewalk whilst filming. Isn't that illegal?

NR-Did you give up running because of injury? Sounds like you were as hardcore about that as the riding.

GB-When's the next rando ride? I feel left out and figure if I can put it on my calendar far enough in advance it'll go smoother schedule wise.

Hurt both knees--the right one worse and first. I knew what to do when I hurt the left one.

I've run a couple times last year after not having run for at least two years. It was 5 miles on a cushy trail. I did it with no knee problems afterwards, but just haven't found the time or motivation to do it again.

I was hardcore. Read the third paragraph from this October 2002 Running Times magazine:

    http://runningtimes.com/Article.aspx...5839&PageNum=2

The guy who interviewed me for that article went on to write this book in 2005:

    http://www.amazon.com/Run-Strong-Kev...7805581&sr=1-1

I don't think I'll get back to the level I was at, but I could get some of it back. Cycling is less painful, though.

lost 50lbs running? so what was you max weight? 250?

I rode the canondale today, what a rough, uncomfortable ride compared to the GT, down tubeshifter sucks bad compared to the GT,thankfully the GT will be back on the road tomm.

Wife took it to bike doctor, got there 15 minutes before closing, the took care of the headset right away and didn't charge her a dime, I think I owe someone some pizza and sodas. (they look too young for beer)

I don't like posting this picture, but it conveys the contrast very well.

    The progression was: 200 pounds / 155 pounds / 145 pounds

I'm somewhere around 160 pounds today, so I'm carrying an extra 10 pounds at least.

I'm calling the Dr for a second round of anti-biotics before this problem gets any worse. Reading the blogs and forums Lyme's gets pretty ugly down the road. Lots of theories but no guaranteed cure if it is not taken care of early.

The De Niro analogy is perfect, and the running (especially 100 m a week!!!) will take it off, I find it much more difficult than cycling, even cycling at intensity.

I think I saw that pic before, what a transformation, and 100 miles a week running, phew, no wonder your knees protested. According to my scale I was down to 190 from over 200 in 07-08, but have come up again recently to 195, though I started weights again two or three times a week for about a month now, or it could be that my diet is out of control. My belt is still down three holes, maybe the leather stretched.

I don't even do 100 bike miles a week. NR you're an inspiration.

I'll be in NY Thursday through Saturday, can't bring my bike on Megabus but will run along the Hudson Greenway and CP.

NR, thanks for posting the pics. i had heard you were a one time a bit "beefier" - the pic at 145 is too skinny though. Seen your recent bike pics - 160's fits you well.

    On again/Off again recap

"Sorry I didn't hang with the ride long enough to meet you 2. I guess Rita was the lady on a Surly. Were you the guy in Blue?"
Yes, my wife was the Surly Lady and me the boy in blue with the bandana. This was the first time we rode with this group of masochists so we didn't really know what to expect. Rita and I both thought the ride got off to a brisk pace, especially considering that we had 100+ miles to cover and 40 of that on dirt roads. Rest assured that the pace did slow down as the day progressed. I think we were doing about 16 1/2 when I first checked several miles into the ride. By the 20 mile mark the *** average was down into the 15's. When we pulled into the ORR parking lot just after dark it was 14.2. So if we were doing 16 early on, and averaged 14, we must have been creeping along at 12 MPH for the last 10 miles!

"Yesterday, Andy had some leftover from lunch. I believe he poured it into one of his water bottles for consumption on the way back to Oregon Ridge from York."
No, Bob helped me polish off the last of the pitcher before we hit the road after lunch. That burst of energy I exhibited shortly thereafter coming up into Loganville and beyond I would like to attribute to the theraputic and nutritional benefits of the Yuenglings, but in truth I just had to go potty real bad. I was really disappointed when I turned the corner on to W Springfield and found that the farmer had just harvested his corn field. A patch of greenbriers had to suffice, just had to be extra careful.

Thanks again for a great day,
    Andy

Hey Andy: If you want to reply to one message hit "reply with quote" at the bottom of the message. If you want to string together multiple quotes check the multiple quote box for each message you want to address.
I figured the speed slowed when I saw the times people got back to the lot. If it hadn't you guys would have been back at 4:00.

Yeah, they're coming from Photobucket and not TwitPic, so your work probably has a filter for Photobucket.

By the way, what a crappy day for Veterans Day. The first time I take it off from work (I'm a "peacetime vet"), it rains. Maybe it'll dry up a little.

Thanks for your service. I always thought veterans day should be a holiday ONLY for veterans. Don't know why I get it off. I wanted to ride today but stayed inside.
