Whoops. Abort that plan. I just smacked the top of my head into the uncovered steerer tube of the Kogswell, putting a nice 1" diameter gash into my scalp. Ouch.
I'm guessing it's not a good idea to ride a solo century tomorrow since I'm still bleeding.
If I'm doing okay in the morning I'll drive up to Carol Russell's ride. At least I'll be around other riders. Love to see ya up there Harry.

I couldn't quite take advantage of my rare Saturday off in the way I wanted (riding a long ride), because I was still worried about my head. Sheesh, I really whacked myself good. The pillow case I used last night will have to go to the trash. yuck.
I slept in till almost 9AM. Head still felt sore, but not bleeding. So I put the COHO in the car and drove up to the 7th district Elementary sch. start. Felt weird to drive to a start.
I mis-estimated the travel time and got there just as riders were leaving. I locked the car jumped on the bike and chased, but I couldn't see where they all went. Damn. I guessed at a street and took off down it, but after a mile of seeing no one, I turned around and went back to the start. Luckily, some one had left a cue sheet on their car. I grabbed it and left again, trying to keep up a brisk pace. I passed a few riders who had been dropped, but they were doing a short version of the route.

I never managed to catch the main group until the rest. All the wind today definitely disavantaged a single rider, but I think I was not far behind. Lunch was at the 31 mile pt. at the Amish Markets in Shrewsbury. Very nice. Rode back with the group, but the pace of the roadie set is not right for me. Too fast or too slow. Anyway, we got back to the parking lot around 1:30pm. It felt strange to be ending the ride at only 50 miles.

    BTW. Harry, where were you?

Sorry to hear that your plans did not turn out as envisioned.

Friday night I thought of riding from my parents' place to 7th District Elementary for the ride but I would have had to start very early to be there on time from Abingdon. It would have turned out to be a 110 mile day with a lot of headwinds getting there. I decided against it considering the wind and cool start and then having to ride home afterwards adding another 25 miles on top of the 110. Basically, I wussed out.

Tomorrow, I may do the ride from Manor Shopping Center (Jacksonville) to Delta. I'm going to drive to the ride start to conserve energy cuz I feel like tearing legs off--likely will be my own, but I need a hard day in the saddle.

GB-F@@@ man, what happened, were you riding it when you whacked your head, details....

Saturday? I worked on the house, I don't recall doing anything else, early onset senility.

Sunday-Did a 32 mile ride out to Loch Raven by myself, pretty cold at 8am but not bad. Rode up Providence, once down and up the dam, the up Morgan Mill and Manor to Blenheim and that way back down. I was taking it easy, as easy as you can do with hills. Spent the rest of the day with the kids, we did a lot of widdlin'. I gotta work on my long miles so I can ride with you guys. December 6th...details.. is this down to Chesapeake Beach?

My ride today--met up with Stephen Franzoni for an easy 30 miler that I made longer by riding to and from the ride start:

    http://tinyurl.com/ycy6zrr

I won't be riding in tomorrow to work. I need to pick up a new bottom bracket bearing assy. The water from riding through the floods in Delaware did this one in. I'll replace the chain, too, while I'm at it. I may as well tote in some clean clothes for work and run a few other errands since I'll be driving. Need food in the house.

I had whacked my head the night before while working in my garage. Just a big nasty scab now. I did however check the first few drops of sweat off my brow for color the next morning.

Ride next sunday is "Patuxent River Dreams"- down to Laurel, then northwest along the Patuxent river valley. Home along Frederick rd.

BTW I added "Circumnavigation of Baltimore" for the January ride. (start/stop is in Fells Pt.- good drinkin' afterwards)

I mostly ride out of Davidsonville and Galesville, but did the "Boring ride" out of Oregon Ridge this past Saturday. Very nice ride! I get the sense there are a lot of Balto folks here.

Are there regular scheduled rides out of Oregon Ridge?

There were about 10 people out, but we lost 2 people on the way to the park--hope they made it back ok. Stephen asked me to lead it out while he sweeps. I didn't think I was going too fast, but I guess we needed to slow it down a bit more. Some of the folks were looking for more of a "casual" pace. Whoops.

Not regular in the sense of every Saturday or Sunday, but more like frequently there are rides by the Baltimore Bike Club (BBC) starting at Oregon Ridge Park. You can see the schedule, anytime, using a cell phone with Internet capability at:

    http://cuesheetcentral.com/mobile/

Also, the Severna Park Peloton (SPP) have rides on Saturday and Sunday. They usually start at the intersection of the B&A Trail and East-West Blvd (the "rusty bridge") or at the ranger station about another mile south on the trail. You can get info about them at:

Owie. Head wounds are no fun; they bleed like nobody's business.

Circumnavigation of Baltimore huh? Ok, I've gotta know, how do you propose to cross the Patapsco? Do they let bikes on Key Bridge? Or is there a ferry? I can't imagine you'd be able to ride one of the tunnels.

I would just go around the Inner Harbor. We've done trips through the Inner Harbor and out to Ft. McHenry, if capturing that peninsula is important. Then travel the trail or Washington Blvd south out of town.

NR's got it right- we go through the inner harbor around the patapsco. So, not a true circumnavigation.

Really, that cold in the AM?? I went out late morning and rode in shorts and a T. I think it was in the mid 60's. I did some of the hills around Catonsville and felt pretty good. Best I've felt in a month. I'm on lots of antibiotics. Stomach ain't feeling too good but the rest of me is.
Yesterdays commute was a messy affair in the PM and this morns was really cold. I gotta change my pedals and go to flats so I can wear heavier shoes. Fingers were also cold. Really didn't dress right today.

Max: nice to see you're still around.

I thought that I had to replace my BB...again. Twice in 6 months is just wrong.

On the 14th of November I rode through floods in Delaware. Well, on Sunday, my BB started giving me hell, since I didn't pull it out after the flood ride. I did the hubs in my wheels, but I was just too lazy to break down the crank and BB.

Yesterday, on the way home from work (driving), I stopped at Performance Bike to pick up another BB. I get home, eat some dinner, then proceed to pull the bearings. One side was ok and the left side felt like it was binding. I treated both sides to a cleaning with WD40 followed by an oil bath and then a grease repack. The bearings that were binding felt much better, but not completely smooth, so I think I have some pitting in the balls and/or race. Still, it was smooth enough to attempt reinstallation.

This morning, during my ride in, everything felt great. The chain skip I experienced on Sunday was gone and I could put power into the pedals. I thought to myself that I should do this maintenance more often whether I ride through a lake or not.

    2009 mileage = 14,738 miles; 2010 mileage = 15,234 miles; 2011 mileage = 17,344 miles; 2012 mileage = 11,414 miles; 2013 = 12,169

    Hi all,

I really dislike the new bf setup, Everytime I get into the NE forum, I get an error, hit back button then its fine. And I got logged out 2 times just trying to post this.

Anyway, I'm still commuting nearly everyday, eating better (but of course I could make better choices still), pizza cut down to once a week. Haven't been on a scale for over a week afraid if I didn't lose anything I'll be discouraged.

Nr, on the bottom backet, you have the external one like this right? http://www.trisports.com/sram-gxp-bo...hannelid=FROOG

I bought this tool and I managed to do was slip and mangel mine up, It unthreads counter clockwise on both sides right? I read of some people putting the bb in a vice and using the bike as leverage to remove it.

whats the secret? All the rain I've been riding in and the occasional floods plus some creaking (not a lot), I'll like to just replace it. I could always pay bike doctor $30 to replace it but wheres the fun it that?

Harry-I tried the "loosen front skewer and repostion" trick, it got rid of most my creaking, thanks.
