Overall, though... I love riding in the rain when it's warm out.
I also like riding in rain during the summer but people tend to shy away from me on the train as I drip, drip, drip....

GB's final group lost touch with us after that stop.

I had the two guys from Johns Hopkins, Tom, a guy in a white jersey (sorry, forget his name--Martin?), "Quarterjack" (Tim?) and Jeff after the second-to-the last rest stop. Further down the road, we ran into Ben Bassett--he missed a cue somewhere. Our group became splintered after Tom and I latched on to Ben. Tom's RD was chattering much of the time and getting on people's nerves though no one told him so.

Tom, Ben, and I dropped the others, then the chattering RD finally got on Tom's last nerve. He stopped to fix it, but Ben and I kept rolling back to Dixon where he and I took a break by the restrooms (in the shade of trees). [Later when I checked my GPS record, we averaged 18.1 mph from lunch to Dixon!]

About 15 minutes later, Jeff rolls up. We also spotted the two guys from Hopkins.

Ben, Jeff and I stayed for at least 45 minutes before we decided to leave Dixon.

Ben headed west and Jeff and I headed north stopping at the Royal Farm Store off of the I-97 off ramp for a sit-down rest, food and drink before heading back to Carroll Park.

Made it back to the park with no issues. Jeff left me at Charles St as I continued northeast back to Essex.

Scored an "new to me" bike off ebay last night. Trek 720 touring bike from the 80' for $420.

nice report GB, wish I could have been there. Just to be part of the historic numbers, well okay and ride with y'all. No beer, what's with that? Next time go into Galesville, nice little restaurants down there as well as a great view. What's a few more miles for the rando riders.

I'm heading to Maine for 2 weeks in August so will probably miss the next one. When and where is it?

These recent storms have wreaked havoc on my lab. No lights in the hallway, 1 microscope down...and out, no A/C. I seldom use AC at home and now work. The only cool down I get is on the bike ride downhill to the train.

So, does your name and slogan imply that you ride a Vanilla?
    If so, pics are required.

Isaias, glad you made it home. Rather ambitious ride in this heat. At least you gave it a go, I on the other hand didn't ride this wknd. Heat is just too much. Didn't even ride to Artscape. Looking forward to winter

What Charlie said. Never thought I'd see the words "SAG" and "Isaias" in the same sentence but sounds like it was the only option!

I was camping on the beach at Assateague National Seashore for three days with a bunch of friends. Stupendously hot and humid. A few of us brought bikes and on Friday we rode to Berlin to hit the farmers market and get some lunch. The guy with the bike computer (I didn't bother to bring mine) said it was 26 miles total. I don't think I have ever been so drenched from a mere 26 miles. I looked like I had jumped into the ocean, and then immediately onto my bike.

By the way, I rode in today after a lengthy recovery process followed by prep'ing the bike for t-storms this week followed by more recovery stuff.

I felt decent on the ride in, but I'll be taking it very slow on the way home this afternoon.

Rode Steve Zeldin's tuesday ride up to and over prettyboy this morning. Sweat was a steady drip, drip off the brim of my cap as I climbed up and away from the dam.
The crew that showed up were quick riders, but I held on and finished with the main pack, managing to maintain a 17mph ave with a lot of climbing.
Whew! My legs have been hurtin all day. At least 80% of the ride was at a pace that was uncomfortably fast for me.
Probably good training though (not that I do that).

Just to note that the BBC forum always gives me an error when I log in, sometimes in means it and other times not, anyway I can't post a response to this there so if someone could pass it on:

"Last but not least, Baltimore County elected officals will need calls from their constituents to implement the eastern and western side bicycle plans and make them more balanced with improved on road accomodation. "

Well said Jeff. Seems Baltimore County just lost their bike/ped planner. Apparently his grant was not renewed. I was so happy to see that we finally had a real bike planner but it did not last. Hopefully the Baltimore Bike Alliance can fill the void. Charlie
To clarify we lost a part-time bike/ped planner but we still have another some-time bike/ped planner Kathy Schlabach who is very sharp on cycling issues but has other duties. The big problem in Baltimore County (and I will assert Statewide) is funding. To many places have invested a lot of time and money in planning only to find funding is not as available as they originally hoped. So why would anyone invest in a bike/ped planner if they can't get things built? I'm trying to drive the point home to MDOT via this article: Imagine if: Police announced that they spent only 1/3 of their anti-crime grant while the crime rate increased

The issue is complicated but it boils down to the State not keeping up with other states in both results and funding for bike/ped projects and they have Federal money left over they have not obligated.

Dang! I would love to try this with Crista and Chuck this weekend, but I'm afraid that I'd overheat over the 128 miles and 15,000ft of climbing even though it'll be 10 degrees cooler out there:

    Um, yeah, 'cause 10 degrees cooler than 100 is . . . 90! Chilly!!

Actually, I just had the weather window up checking out our local forecast (which really is, no kidding, 100 degrees for Saturday!) So I checked out Deep Creek, it says 85 Saturday, 76 Sunday.

What ride that would be, though! I can't conceive of even walking up a 31% grade.

That would make a long sag ride home. Not certain your family would pick you up on this one.

Nate Evans and Balto city put down a bike lane right near my home on frederick rd all the way to downtown. The city is on a roll. Interesting things are happening in Catonsville in terms of parking which might make for more bike lanes....we'll see:-) Stay hydrated this weekend folks...especially you Isaias.
