    It was a great time!

Being car free does put a bit of a damper on doing club rides but I guess whatever does not kill you makes you stronger.
Darned good ride, Barry! One-hundred and fifteen? Nice!

BTW, I'm the guy who wrote to you a couple days ago about feeling bashed by Mark C. Part of your response was to "stay tuned" regarding a matter that was soon to transpire.

Speaking of "car free", the insurance company finally came through with an estimate and they're getting ready to move my vehicle to the body shop that I chose. So, hopefully, I'll have my vehicle back soon and I can drive to those bike club start locations, as well as enjoy my favorite MUP again--the B&A.

There's no such thing as too cold, just the wrong clothes. My 15 mile commute this morning was ok, except for having to battle the northwestern winds along the way.

Baltimore Co. Ride Report - 11/4/206

Following is a gmap-pedometer link to a map of the ride I did today. I've reached one of my goals during this ride, that being to put 10,000 miles on the Giant TCR C2 that I purchased at the end of October 2005. That done, now I'm concentrating on reaching 10,000 miles for the year of 2006. I need about 1,840 more miles though.

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=526944

If you look at the map, the beginning is fairly convoluted. That's because I wanted to check out the new Route 43 East "connector" between Route 40 and Eastern Avenue. On the way back to Route 40, I missed my turn and wound up at White Marsh Mall where I took Honeygo to Joppa, where I encounted an MDSHA detour that eventually got me back to Route 40.

    Ride Mileage = 70+ miles
    2009 mileage = 14,738 miles; 2010 mileage = 15,234 miles; 2011 mileage = 17,344 miles; 2012 mileage = 11,414 miles; 2013 = 12,169

Itís really nuts how the temperature bounces around here, itís nice then itís cold and then itís nice again without much in between.

Oh, I know! I've done a couple organized centuries, as well as a few solo centuries--more solo ones than organized ones, thus far.

The last one was this route (~113 miles):

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=505656

Also, I've soloed from Essex to the Conowingo Dam, then up to North East, MD and back to Essex--approximately 120 miles.

So, is anyone [else] commuting to work in the rain?

My backpack was more waterlogged than me, by the time I got to Towson from Essex. I placed everything in the backpack into plastic bags, so the contents arrived at work dry.

My Hefty(tm)-Tall-Trash-Can-Liner-rain-barrier covers my torso. That portion of my body was relatively dry. Arms were soaked. Shorts part of bib shorts were soaked. Feet were soaked even though I wore booties over my road shoes and attempted to close off the tops with waterproof tape. And, there was a steady dripping of water off of the brim of my "LOCO" (LocoRunning) cap--installed under my helmet, of course.

All in all, it was a good ride. (as long as it's not freezing rain)

Your Hefty rain coat has me laughing. You must have been quite a sight Sorry you got soaked despite your best efforts. You get major snaps for just being out there on a day like today.

Thanks, Jennifer. I knew I would get wet. It was just a matter of degree.

I did my commute this morning (in downtown DC). I already chronicled it in the How Was Your Commute Today threat (in Commuting), so won't repeat myself here. But in sum, I was cut off by an SUV and in swerving to avoid a collision, hit a patch of leaves and wiped out dramatically. So watch those drivers! And watch those leaves! As a result, I'm hobbling all over the office, with a nasty bruise on my hip and soaked work clothes (my backpack split open when I crashed).

I sorta commute, rain or shine. But then again my office is our converted Dining room. So it is mostly roll out of bed, pass the bathroom on the way downstairs.

I guess I could bike it but my wife wouldn't be too keen on my mtn biking down the stairs. And going up the stairs by bike can be tricky.

I wish that I could commute, the road I use to get to work is terrible for anything other than cars, lots of blind corners, and no shoulder. Now if I could find a nice off road route I would be all for it!

Hi to all the MD people...I did my first Century ride yesterday...it was the Seagull Century route but since the Waterfowl Festival was going on here in Easton...we decided to call it the "Waterfowl Century"! We had made the plans to do the Seagull but made the decision to postpone due to the Nor'Easter weather system that weekend. Anyway--yesterday was AWSOME (74 degrees F and a light wind 11-15mph). Even saw the ponies on the beach at Assateague.

I've ridden three times and the first year was drop dead gorgeous weather. I'd say I was a little spoiled, but the weather these past two years has evened the score.

Morning folks: Seems spring has returned to Maryland. I always commute in the rain. Traffic to DC SUCKS when it rains. When motivation is low I just put on the traffic report, think about I-95 traffic the grab my pannier and go. I rather listen to the weather report than the traffic report.

No Racer: A Hefty bag!! You seem to ride a bunch, you owe yourself a rain jacket If you're cheap like me look at Performances rain (rubbery one) coat. $15.00!

Anybody here ride in the Catonsville area? Catonsville to Beltsville? It would be nice to have someone to commute with on Bike to Work Day. I usually ride the bike to the MARC train then get another bike to get from the train to work. On BTWD I ride the whole thing.

Yeah, maybe, Charlie. But, then I wouldn't be able to do as I did yesterday: got too hot and just ripped the Hefty off my bod.
