Hey, if you rode Loch Raven on Saturday, they close Loch Raven Dr (the other end, not the end that you rode) from motor traffic on weekends, but bikes are still allowed. It's really great riding through there without having to worry about cars.
I was wondering that, I saw the road was closed so we ended up going up Cromwell Bridge to Towson.

I managed to get in some more riding today, 20 miles total, dundalk to perryhall via rossville blvd, 950 feet of climbing. Avg 17.5mph. I'm thinking of going from dundalk to loch raven next saturday, if your up to it, or anyone else.

Of course being 90 degrees out I ran out of water (only brought 1 bottle) then I found a sign from god. a church w/a garden hose.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I got in a decent ride today. With my schedule this year I have spent more time on the trainer this year than outside. It was nice though, as it is a standard loop I ride. I could tell that at least the trainer miles have been helping. Also stopped on the way at Spring Meadow farms to meet the family on their outing.

Good day

Yeah, if you ride the closed area through LR, you'll see lots of people back there. The road is closed all of the way up to Morgan Mill Rd where there's another gate to keep cars out.

Lately, I've had back problems, so I've been taking it easy. As of yesterday, it felt much better after about 4 days of twinges.

Both Saturday and Sunday I did my low stress ride down at the airport--BWI loop and the Annapolis out-and-back.

Veloellen,

I avoid Wildwood at all cost. Not a fun place to ride. From Sea Isle, I do venture down RT 9 towards Cape May and hang a right on RT 47 in the Rio Grande area. That is normally a nice ride. You have to watch for glass though. From there, I run up towards Woodbine and take 557 towards Tuckahoe, then RT 50 south towards Seaville. I take a left on RT 9, and then ride into Ocean City on the 34th Street Bridge. I will head back to Sea Isle from there. This is about 65 miles. I do many rides from Sea Isle along Ocean Drive and will ride through Ocean City, over the bridge, then head towards Longport, Margate, Ventnor, and then usually turn around in Atlantic City. That is about a 40 mile loop. We stay at my Aunts house, which is on 22nd Street in Sea Isle, so I get to see all of the bike riders passing by. It's hard to say "no" to a bike ride, when the bikes are passing by every few minutes luring you in. Despite not being a beach person like the rest of my family, the bike rides more than make up for it. Glad you found some good rides while on vacation. Ride safe.

Sounds great. And I am fully lighted so I am not afraid of the dark either. I mostly work from home, when I'm not running around to clients. So my schedule is pretty flexible.

Just fair warning though. I have neither speed nor endurance these days. But I'm working on it.

Is anyone doing Civil War Century next month? I have never been a hill rider but since losing a few lbs. thought I'd give it a whirl. We have a number of friends doing it and they talked me into it. I told my husband - metric only though! What has been your experience with the shorter rides?

You may find something in this link about the ride:

The metric is not that hilly.

If you want hills do the 3/4 the first half has long two climbs and the rest is flat. There is also a bail out at mile 40 or so if you want to skip the flat part.

If you go to the web site and look at the century profile and cut out about mile 12 to 40 that's the 3/4. I did it last Sat. (I took the short cut back).

My son and I will be going for the full century. My wife and younger son are going to volunteer as a SAG vehicle. I'm really looking forward to meeting some new riders and this will be my sons first organized ride. He's pretty excited..

Then I'd suggest sticking with the 62 or 50. Just some rolling stuff no big climbs.

I'm signed up for the full CW century. Last year I bailed and made it a 73 mile ride or so. I regretted doing that because when I got back to the cars I still felt pretty good. It was pretty hot.

I did the Indian Head 100 the day after the CWC, that's a fun ride. Also a nice recovery after doing the hills of the CWC. I plan on completing both rides this time around.

I'm doing neither. I lost my legs sometime in May and haven't found them yet.

Actually, after my ride to OCMD, followed by two big mileage weekends in the heat, I'm pretty much a crispy critter at this point.

One of the cool things about the CW Century is the almost all down hill bailout. So it's hard to say how you would have felt doing more hills with the full century, especially on a hot day.

Hey Rob, Since I will be working the Amish 100 in the morning (registration), I plan to ride the metric, as I will not have sufficient time for the full 100. To make up for it, I am riding the Civil War Century on September the 6th so that I get my century ride in for the year. For those looking for info and registration information on the Amish 100, go to https://www.paxvelo.com/amish100.shtm and visit the Pax Velo website.

Crispy Critter! Oh no. Well, it seems like your mileage is going up quicker than just your commute. You've gotta be putting in something. Fall and cooler temps are coming- your time of year.

If you change your mind, I'm thinking about riding this Indian Head ride. I haven't yet ridden a supported century this year. (10 unsupported so far this year ) I probably won't ride the seagull. Besides, isn't the BF-famous Don Haller down in that neck o' the woods? Maybe I'd get to see his yellow Nishiki.

If you decide to ride it, I promise to take it easy on you.

[QUOTE=greaterbrown;7263354]If you change your mind, I'm thinking about riding this Indian Head ride./QUOTE]

I rode the Indian Head 100 a few years back, and really enjoyed it. Rolly enough to be interesting but not enough to wear you completely out, lovely scenery, very low traffic (not a ton of bikes, either), very friendly club support. I've been wanting to do it again, but I have something going on at noon that day, so it's not possible this year.

I'm probably going to sign up for the Amish 100, though. I've never ridden that.

Well I did the time trail today, pretty cool first race. tons of people and bikes. I did it in 5:11 @ 9.3mph, I didn't think that was to bad. One guy from BBC past me and beat me by nearly a minute. I'll post pics with results later.

I was thinking if a 12-27 instead of a 11-25 would work better? one extra low gear make that big of a difference?

They start me almost 10 minutes earlier than expected so the wife and the kids were alittle late to take my pic on the hill, heres one of me after the race on the new bike, pic of bike and pic of results.

Sorry 5:16 @ 9.1, still not bad I think.

That's a pretty big spread of ages in that class. Anywhere from a 20yrs. old to 62yrs. old. Is that normal for a time trial like this? By the way I could'nt help noticing your Exustar shoes. I've got a pair of those and for a lower price shoe I really like them. Good job...
