Then there's my old L&M ARC HID rated at 550-600 lumens.

Shortly after the pic, once all of the batteries were charged, I placed my Dinotte 200L on there, too, turned off the lights in my house and fired them all up on high. I don't think I have enough light. I only burned off the top coat of the cat.

Anyone hear from Barry lately? I haven't seen anything from him since our ride last weekend. I haven't gotten anything from B'moreSpokes and I didn't see anything new as of this week on there--sorta worried about him.

hi guys - i will be traveling through/to MD the week of thanksgiving, final destination is ny. i plan on being in the baltimore area around lunch time (or before) on 11/24 and would like to get in a 2.5-3hr ride (or more depending on terrain & time constraints). i'd like to ride with some of you guys/gals, if possible, but i do understand that everyone won't be off that day/week. if it's not possible to ride with anyone, could you suggest some routes for me?

    thanks - karen

    we need beam shots please.

I thought I had a lot of light with 2 150 lumen lights (bars), 1 200 lumen (helmet) and a over volted 20 watt halogen(bars) @ 400 lumen? and a cheapo 3 led schwin blinkie (far right in pics), mine ain't shhit compared to that 900lum<2200lum. Maybe I'll post a beam shot tonight.

Noticed that too. Yikes. Now you got me worried.
Barry and I are riding the Balt to DC Monument to Monument ride a week from tomorrow. (11/16)

BTW NoRacer, whatever ride you do today, congrats on hitting that 5th digit.

Hi, wolfpack. I'm normally off on mondays, but will be out of town on the 24th.

Keep an eye on the balt bicycling club schedule. http://www.baltobikeclub.org/index.pl/schedulea
Nothing for monday on there yet, but someone could put up a last minute ride.

Thanks, Bob, but I'm saving the 5th digit for tomorrow's ride with DC RAND:

    SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2008

"OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS," starting from Mount View Middle
    School, Marriottsville, Maryland.

    MEETING TIME 7:30 a.m.

No mountains, but this new ride could turn out to be a doozy in its own
right! We'll be exploring a lot of the Patapsco River Valley and
heading north to Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, where we'll have lunch at
Mignano Brothers. It seems impossible to ride a century in this area
without accumulating at least 8,000 feet of elevation gain, so expect
fairly constant steep ups & downs. 100 miles, with short options of 59
    and 81 miles.

    Directions to the ride start:
MOUNT VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL, 12101 Woodford Drive, Marriottsville, MD
21104-1456 From DC Beltway I-495, take Exit 30A onto US29 North toward
Columbia. In 14.3 miles merge onto MD32 West via Exit 16B toward
Clarksville. In 14.2 miles turn right onto MD99 Old Frederick Rd. In
0.8 mi., turn left onto Woodford Drive. MapQuest indicates the school
is 0.1 mile after the turn onto Woodford Drive, whereas Google indicates
0.6 mile. Since this is a new ride start location and we've never
actually been there before, I don't know who is right! Not sure if
school is on left or right side of the road, either. Getting to the
start could be almost as much of an adventure as the ride itself.
Anyone else interested in doing this ride? I think I'll bring the commuter on this one.

    Nobody rode?
I was up late last night watching "the happening" weird movie.
I was not very motivated to wake up early to get in the 50 miles I wanted, I went out around 10am, the wind sucked, really breezy out, I did 15 miles, tour of old dundalk and then northpoint, a mix of hill climb accelerations (never tried before, same hill I did 12mph up before in my lowest gear, I managed to ratchet up to 17, 3 gears up and was not out of breath), 20x20 intervals (about 7 sets) and one long straight away.

    15 miles
    16.9 mph
    90 cad avg

Sunday 11/09/2008 - DC Randonneur's "Over the River and Through the Woods" century

101 miles according to the iBike, but the GPS only caught 99.73 miles with ~8,000ft of climbing in 6:36:39, average speed 15.1 mph.

The ride is split into 2 parts:
    http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/18697 <--Part 1
    http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/18698 <--Part 2

    MAPS

    ELEVATION

    SPEED

Me and another gent by the name of Lane finished ahead of everyone else (~9 people in our group), but Lane is very strong. He dropped me on the long climb up Gunpowder Rd.

At lunch we ran into other members of DC Rand on a different ride. Also, there were some folks from the Baltimore Bike Club on a Seven Valleys ride at the lunch stop as well.

Anyway, it was a great ride with lots of sharp climbs. I would say that the first half felt easier than the second half due to the longer sustained climbs in the second half.

A bit of information for all you bike commuters and advocates. Despite falling gas prices bike programs are taking root around the world, well mostly Europe. I was in Paris back in March and everybody was on the Velib bicycles. You couldn't turn down a street without seeing a Velib station. New York is passing an ordinance that all new buildings built in NY must have a bike room. About time we here in the US are getting onboard. I could go on and on about how Amtrak is incredibly inconvenient for traveling with a bike, how drivers just see us as a nuisance. I work at home so don't bike commute anymore, but kudos to you guys for being so dedicated to it. For the price of that giant widening project of 695 and the i 95 interchange could finance an incredible alternative transportation system. The Velib system in Paris is paid for entirely by advertising space.

I rode little this weekend, twenty some miles on Saturday, none on Sunday. We had a bit of a celebration on Saturday night so Sunday was a wash. Did a bit of running but now my right leg has got some serious pain, from foot to ass. I'll be doing some easy spinning to see how it feels, and see if I've done something bad.

    Josh,

Sorry. I didn't get a chance to do anything with the lights other than use them a little bit on Sunday's ride and this morning's commute. Anyway, I'm not very impressed with the 800L. I'll do a mini-review in a following post.
    2009 mileage = 14,738 miles; 2010 mileage = 15,234 miles; 2011 mileage = 17,344 miles; 2012 mileage = 11,414 miles; 2013 = 12,169

Hey folks: Got back late last night from a body beating climbing trip to the New River Gorge. I am really spent. Couldn't even ride my bike for the commute this AM.
NR: You are at 10K already!! Nice job. How come your images get stripped by my work blockers and others make it through. What do you do different?? I will have to wait to see your retina burning setup. You have almost as many dollars invested in lighting as miles ridden this year I was stopped on my way home last Thursday by a motorist. I thought he was asking directions but he wanted to tell how brightly lit I was. Made me feel a little safer. Fenix lights
wolfpack: I must work on the 24th but if you like rail trail stuff there's an 80 mile round trip on the NRC trail(crushed stone) (Balto to York Pa)or a 50 mile RT(Paved) from BWI airport to Annapolis MD. Here are the links:
    NCR: http://bikewashington.org/trails/ncr/ncr.htm
    BWI & B&A trails: http://bikewashington.org/routes/bwi/index.htm AND
    http://bikewashington.org/trails/ba/ba.htm
HArry: the best line in the Times article: the main problem w/ the program in Spain is its popularity. Racks are often empty before the morning rush hour is over. Nice.
garysol: hope you got to ride w/ some local riders
GB: wish I could ride w/ you and Barry this wknd. I have been neglecting the misses lately and better hang at home this weekend. Later all

Had a great ride. Morning started off wet and foggy so I was surprised when 8 guys were at the meet up spot...Sam's bagels. Stewart who rides a sweet Kuota was the ride leader. We lost the first 2 guys due to a crash on the wet roads within 2 miles of the start. The rest of us continued on the hilly route out to Fulton for a quick bite. We had broken into 2 groups by then. Stewart, myself and one other guy made up the lead group while the other 3 were a bit behind. After a nice social lunch we headed back towards the start point. Lots more hilly terrain on the return loop ending with the long climb from Ellicot City up through Oella and then a final VERY steep climb up a MUP trail through Patapsco State Park. Total Mileage was 62 ..Here is a link to my Motion Based file from the ride.

My computer is down so I have been borrowing computers to get on line so Baltimore Spokes has been a bit slow. On Saturday I did the BBC long ride and the Annual Awards Diner so I got in 89 miles for that day. On Sunday I helped One Less Car do a ride for the Tour du Port Volunteers so ~50 riders came out and we road ~20 miles around the city. I did something to my back so I am currently experiencing pain if I sit too long, hopefully I'll be better by next Sunday. Anne of Tour dem Parks fame may join us for the Monument to Monument ride.

Overall it was a very interesting weekend for me from hanging out with some of the BBC faster riders (I got dropped from the lead pack at ~the 12 mile mark but there were a couple of other riders that I road with after that) to the OLC ride where a 10-12 was the "fast" pace. Anyway interesting juxtaposition of riders and view points.

    Thanks for being concerned, -=Barry=-

Barry was that you the stretched Cannondale cargo bike Saturday? If so it was a pleasure riding with you. I was the guy on the red Specialized with the BF Great lakes jersey.

I'm going to try to swing the Monument ride on Sunday, an all day affair for sure, which is difficult for me to swing. Also interested in the BBC Saturday ride at Maryland line park and ride, though doubt I could get away for both.

Nah! If you spoke to my parents, you'd probably find out that I was stubborn as a child. Talk to any of my Xs and they'd use the words intense and pigheaded.

Do the Monument ride, dude! Use Saturday to buffer the family and rest up for Sunday. That's my plan.

Anyone have an address close to the Baltimore monument that I can point my turn-by-turn GPS at so I can ride to it?
