cueing is not done yet cause I'm still getting the hang of BRToaster. (Bikely seems like it's on its last breaths)
Just FYI, Bob. It seems like the latest iteration of Ride with GPS https://ridewithgps.com/ seems like they have their stuff together... more so than when I tried them last year some time. Their user interface is better and not as clunky as BRT (speaking from today's experience with it). I may try mapping my next routes on that site just to see how well it works as far as downloads of ride data and uploads to my Edge 500 for routes.

Bob... not sure how you are using BRT, but it will fill in all of the turns and create a cue sheet on the fly as you draw the route.

Here's an example of one that BRT automatically created a cue sheet for:

https://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Cour...?course=176557

Just go to the Cue Sheet tab to see the cue sheet. If you want to change some of the wording for a particular turn, you can do it from the cue sheet tab, but the default should be good for most cases.

Ride with GPS seemed perfect by design. However, I've tried using it a few times and it's been very buggy. I am guessing these mapping programs all run on Java scripts. True? I may need an update.

Fiddled some more with Ride w/ GPS this evening. Figured out that my "buggy" issues were just user error. I signed up for the monthly premium fee to get the cuesheet printing options.
Adding/adjusting the route points is way easier here that with BRT. Very nice.
Susquehanna Paradise: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/461355
(do I believe their 12,300ft of climbing?) this ride might take me two days.

Yikes! 12,000+ ft!

I exported the file to .TCX format and imported into BRT and it came up with these stats:

Distance..................186.79 miles

Ascent........................8209 feet

The Map w/GPS file you created is great. It has everything that I need, except since the file is so big, I'll have to watch out when changing screens on the Edge 500.

I thought you were starting at Carroll Manor Park? I will have to meet you at Perring and Saytr Hill, I think.

Sounds like you may be up for it.
The difference in starts is me thinking of making this a yearly thing- starting at Montebello if you want a 300k or at Carroll Manor for a 158 miler. I'm expecting that a BBC rider like Janet G is more likely to ride out of Carroll Manor than in the city.

I want to get rolling early this sunday. I'm planning on a 5AM push off from my house. We can meet wherever's convenient for you.

I think if Janet was ever up to doing more than a century (very unlikely), she would start from within the city. She rides circles around that darned lake all of the time.

I'll meet you at Saytr Hill calculating an intercept using a ~10.75 ft/sec pace.

Damn! 10.75 ft./sec sounds fast. Can you convert that to parsecs?

BTW Bikely calculates abt. 8000ft as well. I'm guessing it's gotta be above 10,000 which, if it's not too sharp, is not so bad.
Won't be a ride to the beach though.

1 parsec =

US customary / Imperial units
19.174×10^12 mi or 101.24×10^15 ft

So... 10.75 ft / 101.24×10^15 ft = 1.06x10^(-16) parsecs / sec

or 0.000000000000000106 parsecs / sec

If it gets too hot and/or humid, it'll be a death march for me. I'll be carrying a bag'o'tricks to help keep me from bonking--hope it works, 'cuz I -really- don't like visiting Mordor.

So far, weather seems nice. My reason for starting so early is to be able to get through the beginning hilly parts without having to go hard. With any luck, we should be through most of it by afternoon.

The worst part of this is probably Cub Hill to Manor Rd. The climbs up to Norrisville (750 ft) and just before Winterstown (1,000 ft) is pretty gradual.

Jack Mallicote sent me a Facebook message about wanting to join us Sunday. I have no problem with it since he is a very strong rider, but I told him that I'd check with you first.

The reason he (and others) know is because I shared the ride on Facebook via Ride w/GPS.

Great! I'll let him know. Since he lives down by Deale, MD, I told him that I'd meet him at the Performance Bike shop. Maybe we should all meet there?

If you think it's important you might explain that it's an untested route. I checked all of it as well as I could, but there's always the possibility of a GoogleMaps error/old data. Also, possible we might hit some unpaved sections that weren't visible using satellite view.

I've been on most of the roads except the most northern section running along the top of Lancaster and then down along to Strasburg. There's no unpaved sections. Even if we were to have come up along the river, there's no unpaved sections there (except for Short Rd by Pequea, if I recall correctly) either.

The worse thing will be being in the open with no respite from the sun, as there's not much tree cover in many sections.

I'm liking the forecast so far: mid 80's, cloudy, chance of showers. Perfect biking weather. IMO

I hope a cold front does go through. Some of my worst riding was in mid-80s and high humidity.

Here's what I sent to Jack:

You're not going to hinder anyone if we all agree to keep the intensity down and remind each other to keep up with our food.

I'm going to try to stay away from cramps myself. If that means going slower than usual, then that's what I'll do. The last time I rode in that area, I needed to get rescued due to cramps and running out of fluids. I don't want a repeat.

For food, I would try to carry powdered food like Perpetuem that you can mix with plain water, but hopefully we'll find some good rest stops along the way, too. I'm sort of worried about not being able to find open places on Sunday. This route is untested, so we don't have rest stops mapped out.

I am really going to treat this route with respect. I think the climbing in this area is worse than Skyline Drive--especially if it's hot and humid out.

+1 re: treating this route with respect. The only way I will get through this is by riding very gently.

In an earlier iteration of the ride, I put in Rest Stop Options. I will add them in on my cue sheet.
Spaced about 30 miles apart, they are:
Norrisville rd @Draco (if nec.)
Red Lion, PA
Mt. Joy, PA
Lunch in Strasburg, PA
Whiteford rd @Delta
Emmorton rd in Bel Air, MD

skyline

yah, Skyline is hilly. Did 80 miles there today, so freakin' hot. Even on the drive-99 degrees. Descending to Front Royal was intermittent relief mixed with blasts and pockets of dreadful hot air. I've never sweated so much in my life-ever.
