John,

I neglected to mention that the ride we do is for recovery purposes, hence, the use of the trail.

Man my last weekend in the MABRA area.

I am gonna be out tomorrow morning from ~815 until close to 11 starting down in Annapolis, heading up the B&A to go to East-West to meet a group, and then riding back downtown and up through Crownsville. Should be a decent long ride.

Then Sunday plan on meeting at the "ranger station" at 0715 for my last ride for 8 weeks. Leaving for boot camp Sunday mid-day. Happy Easter to me. At least I will have 1000 miles for the year before Sunday. That part makes me happy.

Aren't you signed up for Kirkwood? Was that before you knew that you were leaving?

Boot camp as in ohh-rah! If so good luck. My son is currently at camp Pendleton in CA. He has some stories from boot camp! Good luck to you, thanks for your service. Charlie

No I am not signed up for Kirkwood. I wish I could have done more racing. Only was able to make 2 tradezone races. I wish I could do more.

And it is Navy boot camp. I am not a Marine. Nothing wrong with them, just not for me.

Going into the Nuclear Navy.

Squid! LOL!

Anyway, the reason I said that, was beacuse I saw a Glen Calhoun signed up. I guess that's not you. Come to think of it, that Calhoun is racing the 3/4.

And what is sad, is that I am more worried about how much aerobic fitness I will lose while at boot camp. And how that will impact my cycling when I am done. I am hoping I can lose some weight at least to offset the aerobic loss.

Boot camp itself should be a joke. I am pretty sure I will be in the top half in terms of aerobic fitness, pushups and situps I haven't done forever, but those will come fast. Since I will be doing so many. Other than that it is just a game.

I am gonna miss my bike. Oh yea, I am gonna miss my wife too.

...and your wife.

You'll do fine. Try to keep your patience... the military seems to be a lot of 'hurry up and wait'.

Yup. So I just get to go with the flow and try to get my bike back with me as soon as I can. I am also anxious for my after boot camp bonus.

I get a new bike with that money. And I am so ready to shop for it.

I just got out of the Air Force after 10 years and a few months. That was 2 weeks ago. Believe me and anyone else that will tell you this, it goes by faster than you will ever think.

If you've been off to college or out of high school for awhile, you'll be ahead of most everyone else. It is a game and you just have to play by their rules. play by their rules, keep quiet and you should squeak through no problem. Just don't give them a reason to know your name or "like" you. haha

Good luck to you though.

The BBC had a Davidsonville ride tomorrow. Maybe we're talking about different rides?

Here's the description:
Saturday, March 22, 2008

10-12 mph - 9:30 am - 32 mi - Manny Steinberg and Bob Seay (410-655-8242 or 410-242-6929)
START: DES - Davidsonville Elem School
Ride to Deale for lunch.

Yep, different rides. I was talking about the groups that start at the Davidsonville Park and Ride on 50 and 424 starting at 9. Most groups start around 9 and head out toward Deale, Shady Side and down rt 2.

I think it's at least 5 different clubs that meet there but not all ride with each other. I know nothing about the different clubs and the histories between them all. But it seemed there was some dissention among them all. I was just looking for people to ride with and usually went with the slower part of ABC.

So if you're not doing that ride, are you going on the B&A then?

EDIT: I just looked at the weather and see they're calling for rain. I suppose that's why your ride cancelled then?

Yes. the possibility of rain already caused cancellations for a couple of our club rides.

Our race team may still ride from either Oregon Ridge Park in Hunt Valley at 10am or Meadowood Park on Falls Rd at 11am. I haven't decided what I'm doing. All I know is that I have a scheduled team workout to do and need to decide how/where/when I'm going to accomplish it. That, theoretically, leaves B&A out since the workout will have me going quicker than 15 MPH.

Got in my last ride on my bike before heading off today. Got 50 miles in. Have just over 1000 miles for the year. And I am quite happy about that. At this time last year I still had 0 miles. So all this riding should pay off for the next 8 weeks.

Be back in 2 months. But in a different area...

Got out again on the B&A today and I'm thinking it's cursed for me. Everytime I go out on it, something happens to the bike.

First time it was the chain at 10 miles.
Next two times it was the rear casette.
And today... Handle bars are magically loose again as soon as I start. The last two times it was in the LBS they come back loose. Then at 15 miles it was a flat. one piece of glass, two punctures to the tube. I got it fixed, got to the skatepark/baseball field and it was flat again. Pump it up and now I can tell that the valve stem is leaking.

At least I got 15.6 miles in according to the GPS.

Saturday, I went out for my longest ride yet. dundalk to mountain road, 35 miles total. took 2.2 hours avg 15.3mpg. Rt 7 has some hills, but all in all good ride. Next weekend I might shoot for Havre de grace.

noracer, I'm sure you've done this route what kind of mph do you avg? also side note I finally hit 40mph.

https://veloroutes.org/bikemaps/?route=8767

so I'm over 105 miles total for last week (most for me), I also rode back and forth to work everyday.

How was everyone elses weekends??

No riding this weekend. But I got my mom's bike setup on the trainer (she busted up her knee skiing so she will be riding indoors awhile).

Also split 3-4 cords of wood sunday. About the only part of my body that isn't sore would be maybe my eyes.

[edit]
oh yea my dad and I built a shelf unit for my sister.

Actually, I don't use Rt 7 much. I ride Rt 40 going to Havre de Grace.

My last trip out on Rt 40 was to Aberdeen from Essex (Eastern Blvd toward Martin's Airport > Rt 43 > Rt 40). On the outbound leg I averaged 19 mph (had a tailwind). I think I averaged just under 17 (round trip) with the headwind coming back.

Many of my routes are found here:

https://www.routeslip.com/discover/USA/MD/Essex

I've quit using RouteSlip because it won't render any of my routes on my PC anymore. It may be a JAVA thing. Don't know.

Then, I had routes on Bikely, but the Brits took that sight over, and as far as I'm concerned, ruined it when they launched BikeRadar. Here's some of my routes from Bikely via BikeRadar:

https://www.bikeradar.com/routes/?src...aths&x=105&y=9

The last route I plotted, I went back to my "old stand-by", GMAP-Pedometer, just for it's simplicity. Here's the ride I did last Saturday (my ending mileage was 104 due to missed cues):

https://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1744236 - This route started at the Park & Ride west of I-83 on Mt Carmel Rd. The travel direction is clockwise to the Susquehanna River. Lots of climbing--according to the folks with us that used GPS, ~11,000ft worth by the time we returned to the ride start.

Sounds like you had a nice ride. Today was my first ride in the last 11 days. I was sick(hurling and such) over the Easter wknd, recovered and then went to WVa to spend 3 days climbing at the New River Gorge. My hands look like they've been through a meat grinder. Hope to hammer a lot of miles this wknd as the legs are rested. Also hiked Old Rag last week, beautiful hike.

charlie. You should have taken the bike and put on some mileage on Skyline while you were close by. Old Rag is a nice hike, alot of bouldering towards the top if I remember correctly. It does'nt sound like you sit around alot.. I did about 33 miles around the Sharpsburg-South Mountain area this weekend. Very nice to get out with the sun shining bright...
