I haven't found out when I need to drop off my son tomorrow, that plus regular Sunday schedule makes it highly unlikely that I will be at McHenry tomorrow. I may have to ride between obligations. If I'm not there by 7:30 please depart.

Tour of California starts tonight. 5pm on Versus.

NR-70 miles must seem like nothing for you nowadays.

Sorry I couldn't make the ride. I need to talk with my wife about this ongoing Sunday schedule.

Hey, I was working out with Phelps yesterday after my spin class. Pretty wild when your lifting weights and a world class champion swimmer is doing the same a few feet away.

NR-If you roll through Churchville again and you see a store called Carsins Run, stop by and tell them Harry says hi. My uncle owns it and my cousins work there.

Hopefully I'll get some cycling in today, considering this was supposed to be the week in Tucson.

I'm home. Thanks, Bob, for a great ride! And, thanks for the beer!

The battery ran out on the cell phone at 107 miles. The iBike has 121.4 miles and I know that it is about 2 miles shy of actual, because it shut off on me on two separate occasions.

So, I'm calling it 123 miles for the day counting my back and forth from Fort McHenry from home.

While not as inspiring as NR I hit a new mile stone in my recovery this weekend, I am now able to walk (actually more like hobble) without crutches for a while. Every week feels a little closer to being back on the bike.

Good for you, Barry! Bob and I wished that others in our group would have come out for this ride. It was a good ride, but we missed the chemistry that happens when more of us are together.

Btw, we had Chinese for lunch! It was different than the usual lunchtime fare. I can say that it sat well with me, but the serving of Shrimp Lo Mein was too big to finish. Both Bob and I had to leave some behind.

Here's today's ride:

http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/20692

http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/20698 <--Missing Section

Point to Point 100 Mile Ride
15 February, 2009

This is a ride crafted by Bob Wagner. It visits some of the peninsula points on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay starting and ending at Fort McHenry National Monument Park.

The total mileage for my day was 123 miles since I biked from Essex to Fort McHenry (and back), taking a slightly quieter way home through Dundalk instead of going straight up Eastern Ave/Blvd.

Activity
Code:
Route: -- Elev. Avg: 25 ft
Location: Essex, MD Elev. Gain: -76 ft
Date: 02/15/09 Up/Downhill: [+2824/-2900]
Time: 03:18 PM Difficulty: 4.2 / 5.0
Performance
Code:
Distance: 107.47 miles <-- See Notes below
Time: 6:52:33
Speed: 15.6 mph
Pace: 3' 51 /mi Heart Rate: 130 bpm (Avg)
Calories: 5106 159 bpm (Peak)
Notes
Code:
Missing the last 16 miles due to a dead battery in my cell phone.
MAP

ELEVATION (FT)

SPEED (MPH)

Here's the missing section of the ride. Essentially, it's about when I had the tire blowout to when I got home. I assigned the same pace to this section as the rest of the ride:

Activity
Code:
Route: -- Elev. Avg: 39 ft
Location: -- Elev. Gain: +79 ft
Date: 02/15/09 Up/Downhill: [+574/-495]
Time: 04:30 PM Difficulty: 3.2 / 5.0
Performance
Code:
Distance: 14.53 miles
Time: 0:55:53
Speed: 15.6 mph
Pace: 3' 51 /mi Heart Rate: 130 bpm (Avg)

Wow! Nice clear pictures--a welcome change from my cell phone pics. I think I need to start carrying my digital camera on these trips.

Thanks, again, Bob.

EDIT: And, if anyone is wondering what I'm doing up, now--it's because after the explosive flat, I placed my spare tire on the rear rim.

I woke up, and remembering that the spare was on, I started agonizing over whether I should put another tire on or leave the spare on. The new tire won the honors--the spare is tucked safely back into it's saddle bag.

I really wanted to go on this one but had to deal w/ the parents on Sunday PM. I was able to squeeze in a quick ride to downtown on the Gwynn Falls trail to downtown, visited Dickeysville, Fed Hill and Camden 'hoods.
You guys road all the way to Miami beach. Where were all the bikini clad ladies

It was a good one. I'll tweak it a bit- hopefully making it better and then post it to BBC later in the year. I was thinking this could make a real nice autumn ride. There were a few dud points, namely, Wilson and Turkey I'd eliminate. there was a woman on her beach chair at Miami beach. We weren't too close, but I don't think NR or I would have been interested in seeing her in a bikini.

During our sunday ride, I was telling NR about this ride:
http://www.franklinlandtrust.org/randonee.htm
Click the "Epic Ride" link to get a full description.

When I first read about this thing, I felt a complete mixture of titillation and horror.

I read all of the blogs, watched the videos, and spied the slide shows.

I think I need to go back to the BREC (Blue Ridge Extreme Century) and conquer that one. It would make a good training ride for D2R2.

Oh, and I'd probably need to look into that cross-bike I've been wanting.

Congrats on that bike, can I have your Kogswell? It would be cool if he could take pics of your bike being made.

You could do that ride. Perhaps you should put your mapping skills to work and put together a roubaix style ride for us, some fire roads, cobbles of Fells Point. etc.

A couple of rides that I have my eye on besides the usual centuriies:Civil War, Bay Country etc.

But seeing how my Sundays lately have been ride-less--- I need to schedule them well in advance.

.....It rides like 180 miles. If you're not doing 8-hour training rides with at least 10,000 feet of climbing on steep grades, then you will not be prepared for the 100-mile event...... definitely horror

The Cheat Mnt 100 has 10,000 ft climbing over 100 miles. You can use that as a training ride.

He was 16th (maybe 9th, hard to tell what's going on with these results: http://www.blueridgeextreme.com/2007/results.htm ) in 2007 with a time of 5:17:13--the year I rode it. It just about killed me, too!

I think I'm better now then in 2007, but Lukasz would still ride away from me with no problem.

I'd say anything under 6 hours would be smoking on that course. I'm assuming that includes stops, not ride time.
I've been stacking my spinning classes this week and trying to fit in more time on the trainer as well to get more saddle time, plus trying to watch my eating again.

Anybody watching TOC? I've been watching the live feed, even watched a bit while on the trainer. Nasty crash yesterday. I'm also currently reading Bruneel's book, Might as Well Win. Just finished the bit where he recounts his flying off a 100 foot cliff in the 96 TDF.
