Regarding our discussion about PBP at brunch. Word is the quota of American entrants is quite high. Found the over in the long distance thread.

"Well what do you know? It looks like the U.S. participant allowance will be 719 riders. That should be plenty of places for all that would like to go."

Nice to hear from another Owings Mills rider. I commute through New Town and up Dolfield every morning.
If you see me, be sure to introduce yourself. -Bob

I wouldn't be surprised if I rode PBP in the next ten years, but it won't be me this year.

Love those Rapha reports-and that ride does look epic. Looks like same date as PBP. I'm not saying I'm doing either.

Great article, and that looks like an awesome ride. Love the "no mechanics, no follow vehicles, no prizes" format.

A similar vibe but a bit closer to home (and, alas, devoid of dirt) is a ride I accidentally found while Web surfing last year. I think I posted something about it previously.

Crush the Commonwealth -- "A 400 mile challenge from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. Just you and your bike. No support, no spectators, no prizes."

Looks like they're planning for the end of April.

Hey folks: Seems like y'all had fun on Sun. I toasted you guys with a Kleenex during your brunch. PBP talk, hmmm. Doubt I could do it. I once had a fleeting thought of being able, but came to my senses. I can't imagine 300K for 4 consecutive days. So now you folks have Isaias riding in a 400 mile race Pitt to Phil. I'll bet on him
Rode in today, first time since last Tuesday. Studs ready, willing and able for the return. I'm pumped. It's 12:30 and nary a flake.

I thought you would like that. You'll note in the top pic one rider is a wheelwoman. So Maxine you are going to have to go or GB will be falsely advertising.

history

I imagine it was a pretty country ride back then, though I imagine you would have to swerve around mounds of horse poop, especially in the cities.

So, it's like riding in Amish country today.

Do I have to wear an 1890's skirt?

I did remark at brunch that I have made a biking New Year's resolution (I never make NY resolutions!) to be able to keep the back of the pack at least somewhat in sight for at least one of Bob's Rambles.

Riva Rd bridge

I know at least a few of you must have info on this bridge and think have seen it mentioned here. Riva Rd bridge in Annapolis-safe? or is that bridge to the south a better option?

I believe Bob routed us over the Solomons Island Rd bridge on one of his Rando Rambles that took us to Chesapeake Beach. I don't think I've ridden on the Riva Rd bridge, but it's probably ok to go over with a bike, too. That one may even have a little less traffic on it depending on when you ride over it. Solomons Island Rd seems to always be busy.

Man down.

Oh my, that wheel rebuild for my Kogswell and (most importantly) my studded tires, just could not get here soon enough. I've been riding the new bike this week. I was turning into Druid Hill and encountered a curb-to-curb wash of ice. I was on it before I knew it was even there. And a moment later the bike shot out from under me. I bonked my helmet on the curb and smacked my right elbow pretty hard. I probably slid 10 feet. Nothing broken thank goodness.

Glad you're alright, imagine the studs would have helped. I guess the trade off is having to ride them on bare pavement for most of ride.

Here's the route I was mapping when asking about that bridge. I've actually routed around the crossing using a local Annapolis route I found. Seems like it could be a good winter ride-plenty of places to stop.
