The third time a charm?

Originally per MVA: The law says the bicyclist has the responsibility to move aside and let you pass.

Now: https://articles.baltimoresun.com/201...-bike-advocate

I'll have something up on spokes in ~ 2 hours

Well done Barry. Last night I went into Portlands DMV book and read about cyclist. It never mentioned anything about "if slower move over". Why, because they treat bikes likes cars. They assume that bikes belong on the road.
@GB: Today I was buzzed twice and once yesterday, so no to your previous questions about cars treating us different. I was also buzzed by a motorcycle this morning. They usually give me a lot of space.

Let there be light: I lost one of my Fenix lights camping in Maine. I was hoping it would show up in time for the "dark season" but never did SO I bought a 900 lumen Magicshine light. 4 x's brighter yet only a little more money and comes w/ batteries/charger. Haven't gotten it yet but will report back after I test ride it. The biggest negative is the wire, I hate wires. While camping this wknd I went to put up my tent and lo and behold there was the missing Fenix!! Go figure.

That's the way it works.

On the DMV note; I got Micheal Jackson to request that I be allowed to review the new Drivers Manual because I have a certain "sensitivity" to these things. That's a very nice way to describe this grumpy old man. But seriously there is no one else in the state that wouldn't like to see our far right law explained better to drivers then just we are required to ride far right as practical and we can make left turns?

- Critical mass

I won't be at any of these, though. I don't like dressing up and I don't like mass bike anarchy.

I hope the Halloween ride doesn't turn into mayhem. I have my wife interested in it. The organizers are trying to keep it mellow yet large. Baltimore's politicians need to see many cyclist on the local roads to give us more political clout. If it turns out to be insane I'll pull out at some point. I want to see the route then make my decision.

The Roland Park was to be a much bigger event but has been trimmed significantly. It is a really really mellow ride. I'll probably stop by to help out a little as the ride is tiny but needs lots of cyclist to show we exist.

I'll send it to you. I'm almost done cueing it.

It wasn't really trimmed- it's the same size as last year. I think they had high hopes for expanding, but no luck. Doing so, means convincing not only the city, but all the businesses along the route.

hey all:
Isaias 12,000!!!! you're catching up to me:-) what happened to Shenandoah?
Max: did you go Skyline? Leaves peaking?
GB: thanks, I'll keep a look out for the cue. Might your wife be going to the Halloween ride?

magicshine: Wow!! Very bright. I hate the wires and bulk compared to the Fenix but it does blow it away. They are now about the same price if you need to include charger and batteries.

Hi, Charlie. Yes, I was camping at Shenandoah this weekend, Friday to Sunday. Friday night was the coldest, windiest night I've spent in a tent in quite a few years! The forecast had called for it to drop to 35 degrees; I forgot to bring my little thermometer, but I can believe it got that cold. The wind was incredible -- I was expecting the flying monkeys to show up at any moment.

On Saturday it was sunny and a bit warmer, but still pretty high winds most of the day. (Nigel said it wasn't very windy on Skyline Drive, though, when he was riding.) We did a 3.3 mile hike to Lewis Falls (after 4 of us walked 2 miles for breakfast, because none of us felt like trying to cook! ) The hike was moderate by Shenandoah standards (which means it was "moderately tough" by mine. ) A few sections of scrambling on some tricky rocks, and a few rocky parts to the steep downhills -- I have to be pretty cautious on stuff like that; if my legs get off-kilter, my knees twinge in alarming ways. The views were gorgeous on this route, which included a short section of the Appalachian Trail. The leaves haven't peaked yet, though, I don't think, it wasn't all that colorful.

After we got back, I walked up to the Big Meadows Lodge to check it out (the Lodge is about a 10-minute walk to the top of the hill from the campsites.) It is really cool, in an old-timey way. It was built in 1939, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. There's a nice tap room downstairs, with a big fireplace (domestic beers only $3.50! ) They're working on restoring the outside terrace, which has a fantastic view of the valley below. There is a restaurant, and a room where they have board games and such and speakers give talks. Although I'm a pretty dedicated tent camper, I think it might be kind of neat to stay at the Lodge for a 3- or 4-day trip.

Saw lots of deer this trip, but no bears.

High five NR on hitting 12K.

Teresa and I took Charlie's advice and headed up to the C&O canal trail in western MD. I didn't fully understand where the WO&D connected so we started in Williamsport and rode north a little more than 10 miles and back. So, we didn't get up to the WO&D trail- next time. However, those 20+ miles was Teresa's longest ride ever. The leaves up there weren't at peak colors, but the weather on sunday sure was. Great time.

Max: we had a little wind but nothing like yours. Temps around here have been low 40s. Still haven't turned on the furnace. Yesterdays temps warmed up the house though.

GB: I posted a link to the ride on your BBC post. When I said Williamsport was close to the trail I was talking in car miles not bike, it is about 10 miles from the trailhead (Ft. Frederick). Sorry for the confusion. Did you stop at the Desert Rose?

Welcome. I do some riding on the B&A Trail. In fact, I was riding in Annapolis on Saturday--busy, high traffic day with the motor boat show going on at the time.

balto charlie assisted in directing cyclists during TdP and I believe greaterbrown rode in it.

Hey vengeful I was there. Were did you use to live

I danced between this morning's rain, very lucky. I also forgot my helmet. Duh! Did you guys wake to that thunder this morning. Wow 2 nasty sounding cracks. I couldn't get back to sleep after.

NR: are you gonna make 15K??? 270+ per week needed. GB needs 160/week to make his 10K. Just too many miles for me to comprehend.

Not your fault Charlie, I didn't look at where the trail starts. I think we got a great ride. I talked to one of the trail patrol people and they were describing the first few miles of the WO&D as being not too fun because it was next to I70. Desert Rose is not open on sundays.

I'm getting 150 miles / week just from commuting. As of the last week of November, that will be increased to 220 miles per week.

Here's where I'm at for this month as of this morning's commute:

Hi, and welcome! I'm very near BWI, and also do occasional jaunts down the B&A to Annapolis.

?? Are you (or your job) moving? Or are you just going to throw a few extra miles onto your commute route?

Is anyone going to this year's BBC Election/Dinner/Social thing on the 20th? I'm on the fence. (NR, it's in Parkville this year, so maybe no one will look at like you have two heads when you ask about where you can park your bike. )

the B&A trail is pretty neat, one of the better trails I've had the pleasure of riding. Must admit I prefer it when it's raining and no one else is around
Ah, the boat show. I love traffic. It evens the playing field when cars have to travel at reasonable speeds.

Thunder? I sleep like a child.

Coming from New York most recently. I was at the TdP also, and thought it was amazingly successful - you might have seen me unloading the Whole Foods (lunch!) truck in the morning or lounging around at the water table in the afternoon, or cleaning up afterwards.

The job is moving to Aberdeen.

BBC dinner? Probably not. Likely, they still won't have "secure" bike parking. I don't want to break my anti-social streak, either.
