Hey Charlie,
Bob probably knows more -but from what I read on the Trek site-no need for lube, and apparently they're made of not rubber but a carbon fiber composite, also they say it's virtually silent, which is probably pretty cool, no stretching and of course no rust. This bike has two hand brakes so you wouldn't need to skip stop, but I bet the belt is stronger than links.

I just read about a tool called BTC that is used to put the belt in. It's the tool that is used to put Bilenkys together.....I think.
Someone buy one of these so we can play with it.

All hail
I'm always impressed by NoRacer's dedication. Bravo! man, get that 12k. I'll check out the live track and put in my guess.
I stopped counting my miles a couple months ago since some days were running and some were inside, and I wasn't really getting in any meaningful road miles. I'm trying to just be satisfied with carving out 1.5 hours of some kind of activity when I can. It starts all over again tomorrow.
Anybody have New Years Day ride plans? One ride out of O Ridge that I'm considering riding up to. The DCRand ride is too far and I don't think I'll be forgiven for another all day disappearance.

+1000 on NoRacer. I've noticed that people that are high on my admiration list bicycling is more then one kind of activity. For NoRacer its biking to work, randonneuring, racing, touring (Ocean City) or an easy spin on Sundays but most of all its an approach to cycling with seemingly no limits.
I can't log on to Live Tracking ether and I am a bit worried with the high winds today.
@Harry: re O Ridge ride, do you want to meet up at say... at the Royal Farms @ Seminary and the light rail and ride up together?

I'm trying to think of a place to stay a bit warm while someone waits and I only have a rough idea where you live, if you head up Thornton how about the Farm store at Thornton and Joppa?

I think BBC ride for tomorrow is canceled. They are worried about the winds. Tomorrow winds shouldn't be too bad though. Maybe it was a ride for today, check their site before you go.

Wow, the weather report blurb on the BBC talk site says gusts up to 60mph this afternoon evening. If NR doesn't get blown off the road he may get squashed by a falling tree. Hell of a tailwind though if you're going the right way.
BBC lists two rides for tomorrow, one out of Meadowood and one out of O Ridge. I would probably be dropped by either group. Last time I did the Emory Church Loop I got dropped on Thornton. I'll make up my mind soon.
The canceled ride is tonights NCR trail ride.

Hey y'all,
Not to get all mushy, but I've got one more bike resolution:
In 2009 I want to ride much more with all of you. I'll take more beer rides, more group centuries, more whatever wherever rides. You all are good peeps.
Best. -GB
BTW I don't know about you, but I want to hear from NoRacer. Where are you dude? Ride safe and ride hard.

Yah, this Bike Forum has become an obsession with me, the latest is wondering when NR will sign in. It was crazy windy out there.

I am somewhat concerned about NoRacer not chiming in but he has a cell phone and friends not on this forum so I assume he is all right, should be one heck of a ride report though.
Hear hear to more rides together!
Harry, I would love to do some touring rides / camping out stuff. Possibly those with families could come and met us at a camp ground that way time out on a bike does not impinge too much on family time. (I'll say anything to get more people out on bikes. )

The ride in my blog is not trimmed for stops, so... it's probably slower than what i really did--typically by 3 mph.

All total... 116 miles! Still not enough for 12k

Thanks.
I'll be starting the New Year out with a bang--riding the DC RAND "Weenie One-Hundred" out of Hain's Point tomorrow. That's if I can get some sleep and can get my butt up out of bed in the morning.
Hey, just realized--I have 480 miles over 5 days!
EDIT--BTW, Happy New Year!

Isaias, you rock.
Glad to know you're safe and home. 480 mi/5 days is huge! This what I've got to say to that: https://www.raceacrossamerica.org/re...on/default.php
And props to you for riding your ride despite how close to an even thousand it was. (most riders would've gone around Lake Montebello 16 times)
Happy 2009

Happy New year all. We SHALL get together more often in '09 to bike and party but in weather a little better than yesterday.
Harry/Barry I will be up for some touring. I'm not a fan of hotels/motels but love to camp. Slowly been buying ultralite gear. Been eying the Blue Ridge Parkway....hills w/ gear

Happy New Year
Happy New Year BF people!!
Now just need to get my ass in gear, get some kind of miles today.
On touring-Yah, no hotels, they depress me. I would prefer to camp and with the 520 I can carry a lot of stuff, though slow of course. I also have a full set of Arkel panniers.
Charlie-I've been thinking of the BRP for years. I hear it is either up or down. Adventure Cycling offers a supported tour there this year. I did their Montana ride summer before last. I also have the AC maps for this ride that starts in DC called the Chesapeake Tidewater.

NR-I second your nomination for RAAM, though you'll need crew.

09 resolutions
1. Get back into proper shape so I can actually ride with NoRacer. I know, it is setting the bar pretty high but I think I can do it.
2. Lose 30 pounds
3. Ride with more BF members

The short ride got canceled and I am moving slow this morning so anyone up for a noon start to take advantage of the warmest part of the day? My number is on the BBC Contact page.
Camping I'll note that I have room for a cooler on my bike. (Think steak and beverages that are good cold )

I didn't get my butt out of bed this morning in time to drive to DC, so now I'm sitting home watching TV and eating PB&J sandwiches.
And, also, I've just turned 51!
I want to be on the bike. I don't want to be back in the cold and the wind. BAH!
I need to HTFU!

I think that this will be my '09 cycling resolution--to help struggling riders stay with the group. I've been there... I know what it feels like.
