I figured it was something like that. On my first TdP the fort was closed because they were fixing the bridge.
Next year.

Additional information is that Fort McHenry wants to charge to have group rides to go through the park, that's why Tour dem Parks doesn't go through there.

Does it cost the NPS more to have a ride go through the park? Do they have to add extra staff to watch the gate or clean the toilets? Or do they see this as an easy revenue source?
Maybe the tour should go up to the gate and turn around before actually entering.

If you held let's say a craft fair in the park with 2,000 people it is understandable that the park would charge. But a bike ride through the park is different and the same rates should not apply. It's frustrating that the park is not willing to negotiate (per my understanding) and we really can't make that big of a stink over it as it can look anti-park. My point it does not look like any large ride is going to go through the fort any time soon, and that's just a shame.

Good afternoon all, its been a while since I posted here as I've been hangin' out a lot over in the Clydes section lately.

I did the TDP this year for the first time and thought it was a pretty good ride. I thought the first couple miles was kind of crazy mouse maze or labrynth but I guess they had to do that to get mileage for the shorter rides. I did the 50 miler and I really enjoyed the ride through Ft. Howard area and I guess what was Miller Island section. I did blow right past the rest stop in North Point Park, but from what I understand there were cars parked in front of the signs when we came through and I missed it.

It was a nice change of scenary for me since I ride a lot in Calvert / Charles and St. Mary's Counties.

I did Tour Du Parks in 2007 at the Bike Bash at Patterson Park and had a lot of fun riding those roads too. Ft. Mchenry was included in that ride.

Cheers

On again, off again ride

Bob,
I was checking out your route for Nov 8 ride. Looks pretty good for the parts of it I'm familiar with. Just a heads up or two: Joseph Rd near New Salem (in York County) has a new entrance. It's still a dirt road that really only accesses the gamelands, but you have to ride up around the pumping station to get in now. And then there's the bridge over Codorus Creek, which has been closed to vehicular traffic for years and is slowly eroding away. It was still standing last time I was there but who knows for how long? A good "adventure" route. Took some work to find that one. Good job, I like it!
Also recently they've put in a neat little greenway just off Beck Rd near Loganville that would fit in well with this ride. It is really close to where you have it mapped, maybe you already know about it and have shown it as the Water St route. Anyway it would be a worthwhile (and minor) detour if not.

Sigh... My build is NOT going well. Having to switch stuff out, sell what I had planned to use (New-Old-Stock 8speed Veloce, it's on eBay) and buy new shifters, RD and probably Crankset and BB too. ugh. Anyone know of someone selling some 9 or 10 speed Campy Chorus stuff?

I need a beer. Or three.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. And, I wish I could help, but I'm a Shimano guy.

Thinking about doing a ride out to York Furnace on Saturday.

I've attached a ZIP file with much of the pertinent info, but sans cue sheet. It'll be a "no-drop" ride starting from the Park & Ride on the east end of Back River bridge in Essex. No need for a cue as long as I don't drop dead somewhere along the way.
Attached Files
File Type: zip
YorkFurnace.zip (22.6 KB, 8 views)

@Trek760 I really wish I could help, that must be really frustrating.

@NR I really want to come out with you guys one of these days but I don't think Saturday will work out. Have fun!

Andy, I haven't ridden this one in almost a year and it certainly needs a fresh check-out ride which I will do before making my final cue. I think that bikely version has some of my notes in it for changes or improvements.

I will definitely use your local knowledge to make it right. I'll email you off list when I dig into it again. (which better be soon- ride's coming up in 3 weeks )

Just back from a nice relaxing trip to Rehoboth and OC.
Included 2 mornings of me sneaking out at 6AM for rides on the Miyata fixie.
A 42 miler around Rohoboth/Indian Head bays and a much nicer 64 miler through the tidal bays and cypress swamps west of Fenwick. I love that stinky black oyster mud smell.

Also a couple of super nice and easy rides with Teresa through Cape Henlopen park (including some crazy back woods pine forest trails on the one speed) and also a late night cruise on the boardwalk to check out the post seasonal drunks.

Ahhh.... I needed that.

Man, that sounds great!

And, you got out of there just in time--Seagull Century is Saturday. The town is going to fill up with more crazy cyclists.

Thanks for the kinds thoughts (and virtual brews!!) about the build. It truly has been frustrating.

I have come to a decision, not made lightly. I have been offered an essentially new SRAM Rival group for a very good deal. I think I am gonna take it. Now I need to sell my Campy stuff, in addition to the Veloce shifters already on eBay...

My wheels are Campy Scirocco, anyone know whether I can change the freehub to Shimano?

Spending more money I really don't have. Ugh. But gotta feed the beast, right?

I'm working on some routes for Sunday Streets and I would like some feedback:

9.5 miles: https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...d-Park-SS-9-5m
26 miles: https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...nd-Park-SS-26m
Tentative 45 mile route: https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.308647&z=12

9.5 - clockwise route as mapped; seems pretty sedate; begins and ends in the park ;
26 mile - counter-clockwise as mapped; LOL! You make these folks climb 3 times, the last one the highest of the three;
45 mile - counterclockwise as mapped; street views are neat in Google Map, but no elevation profile to see the climbing; I don't know enough about the west side roads to comment; Inner Harbor roads could be challenging to some who may bite off more than they can chew;

-IMHO-

Well, I'm not getting any interest from anyone else on this ride, so I guess I'm on my own.

I'll ride to the P&R by 7am, just in case, but I'll be leaving shortly after that.

You're going to pre-ride 100 miles solo just to confirm a year-old cue sheet? Now that's what I call a conscientious ride leader!

Yeah, I know, I know. The weather forecast is looking like "classic Seagull", too. I guess I just didn't get my fill of biking in the rain on the Booty ride!

Tell that to Harry, NR and my friend Trevor.

The three of them chugged up Dogwood rd. hill. (20% grade at some parts) because of my error. https://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...postcount=2390

I think you should put that hill in the M2M cue--just to wake everyone up!
