Holy crap that was a crowded ride! I've never seen a crowd that big. It was cool, but we had to skip a lot of the smaller, twistier spots for obvious reasons.

I had a nice time at the CP night ride. Yeah, it was way crowded. I'd say just over a 100 people!
@ jyossarian: It was great riding with you last night. Love your fixie. I've gotta snag a ride.

OMG! Where have you been young man?
Anyway, we missed ya! You, Air and Pgoat. We could have used some more seasoned riders. There were a lot of newbies.
Newbies + Dark + Crowded + Uphill = Death!
I stayed to the very front most of the ride unless I had Drop in which case I got stuck gingerly making my way past some scary, wobbly newbies. But hey, God bless every one of them. I love that they're out cycling and trying to represent.

I recall years ago I could ride the CP loop without having to get a headlight (I have good blinkers front and rear for visibility to others), the road seemed to be decently lit. Still true??

I've noticed a trend in the past month or so of people having obnoxiously bright headlights on their bikes in the park. Turn them off, I can see you better if it's not shining in my face (since most of you headlight people are riding the wrong way in the first place).

So y'all do one loop around the park, or just keep going 'round as folks split??
Assume you mean on the plaza at the south west corner of the park?

No - the leader takes you down pedestrian paths normally closed to cyclists. It varies on each ride although there are some usual spots seen (boathouse, and the north end of great lawn, where Professor Frink types set up their telescopes, etc.). It's a really nice ride, very slow paced and peaceful. You do go on the main loop here and there (including the north hill) but you are supposed to stay behind the leader and ride her pace, which is kept around 7-10 mph for the less speedy participants and to keep it an enjoyable flower-watching pootle. There are kids and casual riders there, so it is not a 'serious' fitness ride by any means. I've seen various forms of wildlife (raccoons and such) that come out after dark...It's definitely fun.

Sounds lovely, beyond riding in pedestrian paths.
Racoons, possums and skunks galore in the north woods and the great lawn (due to the staging areas the nightly garbage pickup uses).

This isn't a hammer fest, it's a romp through the park using bikes. A headlight is useful since the pedestrian paths aren't as well lit.
