To tell you the truth, don't know that I've noticed. After getting a flat a year ago on the bridge, I replaced both stock tires with kevlar tires. So I'm much more oblivious to things that puncture these days. I will say I've noticed the city streets are for crap - potholes, construction, etc. Between watching for Cabs, trucks and buses and holes in the pavements, I can't wait to get to back to Queens. Not that Queens is perfect, but just seems to be less of a mess.

I concur
I too use decent tires, so no flats, but I just noticed more concentrated areas of hootch bottles on the bridge, all on the north side (like someone was drinking and looking out at the water, then smashed the empty bottle for good measure......oh well, bette than dropping it in the river, i guess....)

Wow this thread has expanded in droves!
Welcome NYC folks! Do yourselves a favor while you're at it and send in an application for LIRR and Metro North passes. They cost 5 bucks but last a few decades if you laminate them!
https://www.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrbikepermit.htm
Hope to see you on some club rides! Or if you want someone to ride with ask. I'm not training for races and will ride as slow as you want! As long as the ride is 50 miles or so, and doesn't take all day!
For that matter here's a few rides coming up in our area. NYC has a very rich cycling community. Just count all the fixed gear bikes you see as you walk around! I'm not a 'fixie', and don't understand why we have all these "fixies" around but, C'est la vie! But it's a sure sign of a die-hard and live well cycling population.

And the Transportation Alternatives NYC 100 is only a weekend away!

See you on the Manhattan Bridge during the commute!
If you see a white-painted bike locked here and there around the city, remember you are at odds with the rest of traffic. Ride safe. Cars generally will not see you. Be careful. Delivery trucks kill more cyclists than any other vehicle...

HI, I'm a fairly new forum member located in Brooklyn, feel free to add me to the PM list also!
I commute as frequently as possible (15 mile r/t) since I've purchased my new Surly Cross-Check...I'm loving this bike.

I'm thinkin of hitting 9W tomorrow around 10ish, starting from west 72nd street park.
Doing it solo sucks sometimes.
