Harrisburg to Lancaster
Anyone know any good routes for going between the two cities. I have stopped using a car and I frequent both locations. I am out of shape how long do you think it would take? Sadly Amtrak apparently is against cyclists and won't let you bring your bike on the train.
I guess I should also ask if anyone has been able to get their bike on the train or if you know of a good bus/other transportation between the two. Thanks! |
I'm not sure how busy it gets, but rte 441 stays pretty close to the river, and might be pretty free of hills. From there, rte 23 goes straight into Lancaster. There are probably more scenic and less traveled routes that someone else could suggest.

Well, crossing into Harrisburg, your only option would be the Market St bridge. Follow Front St/230 down to Middletown and pick up 441 there. Traffic at the end of Front St where the merges to 83 are can be quite disconcerting, so you might want to go inland to 13th st, and cross over 83 there, and turn right to get back down to 230.

Actually, you can take Rt 230 all the way from Harrisburg to Lancaster. You'll be on the main streets through E-town, Mount Joy, Landisville, etc., but it's a much straighter shot than 441.
If you're looking for more scenic/meandering routes than that, I can help you out. Beth |

Why do you say this? From the Amtrak web site: http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/Conten...m2Copy&ssid=43
