Manhattan direction help- please ?

Family is riding in 5Boro tour on sunday,
going to be staying at 5 east 40 st.
Looks like going east on East 40 St to East River Esplanade the south to Battery park
is a possible route, the lablels on the NYCycle map PDF are not real clear.
What is the best bike route to get to the 5boro start ?
Thanks for any guidance,
martianone.

Prettiest would be go down to 30th st and go west to the Westside Greenway. Ends at Battery Park and they'll direct you up Church St.
East side Greenway works, but not as pretty.

I'd just ride down 5th Ave to Broadway and when I get around Chambers street, cut right one block to Church and sneak in the side of the tour.

That time of day on a Sunday the streets won't be crazy with traffic; don't worry about finding a bike path or lane, just ride down 5th Ave like cc suggested. There will be hundreds of other cyclists headed for the line-up, so it should be easy to find your way. But...if you're looking for a scenic ride downtown you can't beat the Hudson River Greenway, though you'll need to go way west to get it. The ride along the East River is nice, too (most of it). See you there!
