Dutchess County????

Just got my first road bike!!
Wanted to start commuting to work in northern Westchester.
Was hoping that maybe there are some benevolent folks in my area who wouldn't mind showing the new girl around the block.
Group rides???

Cheers!

Rob Kelley at Pawling Cycle is a great guy--drop in and talk to him. His shop's club is more geared toward racing, though, so you might check out the Mid-Hudson Bike Club as well. MHBC has a very wide variety of skill levels and interests, from casual to commuting to racing, so you might find some people there to show you around. They have some pretty good weekly training rides that leave from Freedom Park in LaGrange on Mondays and Wednesdays, with a pretty fast A group and a more moderate B group. I moved away from Dutchess to Western CT a few years back, but this used to be my usual group ride.

Just thought I'd say hi. Poughquag here!

There are a few brave souls biking to IBM, but most of the local roads are too twisty and lack shoulders. I've come close to dying on Beekman Rd. more than once.

Yeah, the roads around here are gorgeous, but crazy. I have a new awareness about roads; while driving I take inventory of potholes, shoulders (or lack of), and the general speed of motorists. Different perspective entirely!

I may have to rethink my goal of biking to work because our trains wont let me enter the cars with a bike from 5-10 am!!!! Otherwise, my 60 mile roundtrip commute will be a bit ambitious.

If there are any other great rides, please share!
