Safe Route from Rutherford, N.J. to Hoboken, N.J. **********

Does anyone know of a safe route from Rutherford to Hoboken? I have looked at maps and online but, it looks like I would either have to go on route 3 or route 7. Both of those are high volume, heavy traffic and not safe in my opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, there kind of isn't one. I don't think it is legal to take a bike on either 3 or 7. No way to cross the Hackensack River, afaik.

NJ Transit it is....

The US 1 and 9 Truck route into Jersey City has a very narrow walkway along the south side of the bridges and a well worn in space to walk on the side of the road for the mile or two from Doremus Ave near the Elizebeth Seaport until you get past 440 into Jersey City. The easiest way to access is to come from Doremus Avenue from the south and take the on ramp to the bridge and once you see it hop onto the narrow walkway on the right of the roadway right at the first bridge. You could try riding on the road here but the with the traffic speeds its almost better to just walk the mile or so.

NJ Transit to Hoboken

Routes 3 and 7 are too busy and dangerous to cycle on. You would be better off taking your bike on the New Jersey Transit train to the Hoboken station and then cycle around Hoboken. Be careful there too because the streets are narrow and there is a lot of traffic.

Thanks for all the ideas. I was hoping to bike to work. I am an uber-clyde who needs to shed some major pouds. I was hoping to do so while also helping the enviornment. I guess it's the smart car to work and the bike for exercise.....

I know what you're thinking, "uber-clyde in a smart car"? Yes, it's very roomy inside, even for 6'2" 275lbs me.
